Job description

At HSBC, the health and well-being of our employees remains of utmost importance.  Many of our roles are permitted to work from home (in states in which HSBC is licensed to operate) until further notice. Upon resumption of normal operations, this role may be performed at our Arlington Heights, Illinois office.

The Senior Legal Counsel will be an essential part of the U.S. Wealth and Personal Banking Credit & Lending legal team, providing practical and timely legal guidance to business stakeholders in HSBC’s U.S. Wealth and Personal Banking business, which focuses on retail banking and credit services for internationally connected, mass affluent customers. The successful candidate will manage legal risk and provide advice on a variety of issues relating to the origination and servicing of secured and unsecured consumer credit products, including residential mortgages, credit cards, unsecured lines of credit, personal loans, and securities-backed lending products. The diversity of HSBC’s business, its geographic spread and evolving strategic initiatives means the diversity of matters in scope for this role is very expansive.

The role requires an understanding of the structure of HSBC Group and its culture and the ability to handle increasingly complex legal issues, as well as the ability to establish mutually-supportive working relationships with other members of the Global Legal function. This attorney will work under the supervision of more senior lawyers, but must be able to work independently and to interact appropriately with internal clients, including senior management.
