- The Regulatory Compliance (RC) Centre of Excellence (CoE) supports Group, Region, and Country RC teams in the delivery of key stewardship activities using a centralised model with c950 colleagues across 7 central. The CoE is of strategic importance to RC and in the delivery of its operating model. The CoE covers all aspects of RC with specialist teams in areas such as Risk Stewardship Delivery (Advice & Challenge), Regulation Management (Horizon Scanning & Regulatory Affairs), Risk Stewardship Support (including Conduct) and Stewardship Controls (Surveillance, Employee Compliance & Control Room).
- Risk Stewardship Support function is part of RC CoE supporting RC risk stewards across HSBC to undertake and support risk stewards in embedding Risk Management Framework, NFR requirements and risk stewards’ roles and responsibilities. This role will provide leadership for RC Stewardship oversight, Governance & Reporting, framework support to Countries/ Regions/ Business lines and Group RC infrastructure team.
The Opportunity:
This role will support country/regional/LOB/Group Risk Stewards in their stewardship responsibilities by reviewing RC risks and controls and provide oversight and meaningful insights, enhance quality of risk reporting and overall stewardship framework across RC. This role will support Head of RC Risk Stewardship Support and will have responsibility for functional management of team across multiple COE sites globally. The role includes line management of a team of c15-20 individuals with following responsibilities:
- Lead, build, develop, and manage the team to ensure delivery of Governance & Reporting, Stewardship oversight, and any other framework requirements for multiple stakeholders.
- Leading functional change / transition related objectives in migrating activities to RC CoE
- To support in the strategy, administrative and governance requirements of RSS and RC CoE, including - MI; acting as secretariat; Business Management activities (budget/capacity planning, Annual Operating Plan, Recruitment); Innovation, Training and Education.
- Collaborate and build positive stakeholder and business relationships providing regular updates to identify solutions to high priority issues affecting relevant activities.
- The successful applicant will need to have excellent Non-financial Risk Management knowledge, data analysis skills, leadership qualities, an inquisitive and investigative mind-set, good report writing and communication skills, as well as a good understanding of project management techniques.
- Lead and encourage best practice across the COE team, constructive teamwork by demonstrating collaboration, coaching staff, and enhancing stewardship quality across RC.
- Establish a strategy for the sharing of management information regarding RC risks, controls, knowledge and insights across the CoE and stakeholders including relevant risk governance forums such as OpCos, ManCos, RMMs, FCRMCs, ExCos etc.

- To be a leader, coach and role model for the CoE team.
- To be a trusted advisor to global, regionals and country stakeholders.
- Build and encourage cross-country and cross-business teamwork through collaboration.
- Represent the RC CoE in all relevant global, regional, and country governance forums.
- Design and implement training plans for the team to develop/strengthen capability.
Customers / Stakeholders
- Provide and maintain effective relationship management to all senior key stakeholders.
- Drive strategic programmes and further migrations as appropriate.
- Effective collaboration across the RC and the CoE.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Drive service excellence through operational oversight and deliver on targets related to quality, risk, people and financial.
- Promote an active risk management culture.
- Identify and champion opportunities for process improvements and automation.
- Drive RC’s purpose and play a leading role in the delivery of the RC CoE strategy.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Experience:
- Experience in risk management (Operational Risk, Regulatory Compliance, Audit) in Banking or Financial Services.
- Significant project, operational and people management experience at HSBC.
- Experience of working across multiple jurisdictions with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management at HSBC. Engaging with a diverse group of stakeholders to deliver at pace
- Honed analytical skills, with a strong emphasis on problem solving and strategic thinking
- Outstanding leadership skills and ability to manage a large number of people effectively
- Ability to work with ambiguity and able to navigate through and deliver in changing strategic and commercial contexts
Skills and Knowledge:
- Risk Frameworks – Excellent knowledge and understanding of HSBC Risk Management and NFR (Non-Financial Risk) framework. Expert level risk management knowledge and experience of working in a senior capacity involving the management of risk including strong knowledge of Risk Stewards responsibilities.
- Regulatory Risks – Knowledge and understanding of the global regulatory environment and key compliance and risk trends as well as knowledge of key regulatory obligations in multiple jurisdictions
- Business Processes – Candidates should have an overall understanding of HSBC structure and the different types business of HSBC
- Stakeholder Engagement –Ability to challenge practices and capabilities while maintaining a strong working relationship with the teams involved
- Analytical Skills – Candidates must be able to understand source data, compare information from across the three lines of defence and reach a conclusion, identifying anomalies and where further input required. This includes both strong verbal and numerical analysis, as successful applicants will have to use numerical comparison and close reading of rationales to reach suitable conclusions
- Report Writing – Candidates must be able to summarise large amounts of complex data into clear and comprehensive reports that can be readily understood by a senior audience. Candidates must be able to work to challenging deadlines to produce such reports
- To support decisions with sound reasoning, clearly articulate the case for risk management and policy and the business and regulatory implications of analysis and findings;
- Sensitivity to cultural diversity and ability to dynamically adapt interpersonal style to build effective relationships
- With strong leadership qualities, inter-personal skills and excellent communication, dealing with senior executives. High level of professional and personal integrity;
