  • WPB Regulatory Analytics is a centralized managed team within Risk and Compliance COE that leads various areas within Regulatory analytics including model development (Stress testing, CECL, CCAR and IFRS 9), model Implementation, model methodology, governance and results analysis. It works with Senior Management (including Chief Risk Officer and Chief Finance Officer) for businesses to effectively manage estimation of credit losses and provide insightful analytics.

The Opportunity:

  • The position will report into Vice President of Impairment Modelling and Methodology. As a member of the modelling team the person in role will contribute to extending the objectives of model delivery and methodology development for IFRS 9 models and Economic Response Models (ERM), managing regional stakeholders, and coaching and mentoring new members of the team. This role forms part of impairment modeling team whose purpose is to support the bank’s IFRS 9 loss provisioning for portfolios within WPB across markets where HSBC is present. The role entails responsibility of hands-on involvement across the modeling life cycle as well as mentoring and guidance of junior team members.

What you’ll do:

Specific roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop IFRS9 / ERM model across products and markets where HSBC has retail banking presence.
  • Manage various activities related to independent review, audit, and regulatory deliverable related to the impairment models.
  • Develop new modeling methodologies and monitoring framework for the impairment model type as per requirement.
  • Engage with business partners to present model development activities to various review committees (comprising senior management from various functions within businesses)
  • Work on model development best practices, development of model documentation for submission to Internal Model Review, SOX controls Internal Audit and External Audit as required.
  • Continuously looking at the environment to challenge assumptions around model development, insight generation, tools, talent, potential partners etc.
  • Ensure open, transparent, proactive, and timely interaction with major stakeholders (subject matter experts, model owner/developers/governance/implementation, portfolio/data management team) in alignment with values and behavior principles.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Strong leadership skills and relevant modelling experience required.
  • 9+ years’ experience required, preferably in banking or consumer lending.
  • At least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics/ statistics/ economics/Engineering or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in regulatory model development in retail lending is required.
  • Relevant experience in analytics specifically in the fields like Credit Risk Modeling & Basel, Loss Forecasting / Reserving, Risk Strategy, Marketing analytics/IFRS 9/Stress testing/CECL etc.
  • Prior exposure in stress testing and / or impairment reserves.
  • Strong understanding of consumer lending products like Credit Cards, Mortgages, Personal Loans, Overdraft, Auto Loans and Line of credit
  • Excellent communication skills with technical (the team) and non-technical (senior management in region) counterparts.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to grasp new concepts quickly.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and verbal and written communication skills.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Expert Knowledge of SAS/ Python / ML Modelling Techniques / Experience of dealing with auditors (internal / external)
  • Ability to learn and adapt new technology with changing times.
