Department Profile:

The MSS BM/COO function is responsible for the running of the Markets & Securities Services business in an efficient manner whilst maintain control of the cost base to deliver first class service and outcomes to the customers.

Role Purpose:

As part of the professional MSS COO team in Japan, the role holder will be primarily a first point of contact for SSV business and will support the COO team to execute the business management agenda across MSS in Japan.  Japan DCC is one of the top market players with significant market share, helping offshore clients on custody services in Japan.    On the other hand, Markets business in Japan distributes HSBC products globally to Japan financial institutions and large corporates.  The role holder will be provided with lots of opportunities to develop knowledge across MSS, challenges to support a diverse team of Front to Back office across asset classes.   The role holder is expected to work independently and proactively seek guidance from senior team members when required and is able to make simple decisions to support daily business operations.

Principal Accountabilities:

·        Understand HSBC’s values and business principles and be aware of how they impact on your day-to-day interactions. Lead by example on the culture and conduct principles. Demonstrate the value in your role and work.

·        Take ownership and responsibility of the tasks assigned.  Proactively work together within / outside the COO team to identify problems, issues and solution to get things done.

·        Ensure solid understanding across all business functions and processes across MSS.

·        Support across MSS as one department with prioritization of work based on importance and risk.

·        Support COO team to execute new business initiatives or resolving business issues.

·        Support MSS Japan to meet FRP by

1.       Understanding the financials

2.       Tracking performance - challenge the plan

3.       Tracking monthly direct cost / indirect cost where relevant

4.       Alerting all stakeholder if capture any forecast drops on revenue

5.       Managing workforce plan

6.       Managing and monitoring cost

·        Ensure MSS Japan is fully compliant with all relevant regulations and all necessary controls are in place.

·        Ensure MSS Japan is visible across local, region and global HSBC landscape by promoting the department’s accomplishments and contributions.

·        Ensure MSS Japan maximise the delivery of the HSBC Japan Strategy

·        Support Future of Work, business continuality and other working arrangement to ensure business outcomes and resiliency.

·        To manage changes over MSS Japan structure. Leverage best practices to drive efficiencies.


Qualifications

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

·        Ability to read/write/speak in English & Japanese in business level.

·        Knowledge & Experience of Global Markets and Domestic Custody and Clearing business in Japan.

·        Knowledge of Japanese financial infrastructure. JASDEC, ISTAR/BOJ, ICJ & JSCC.

·        Knowledge of Finance Accounting. Experience of Business & Financial Planning.

·        Experience of Business Coordination; executing & delivering the business strategy.

·        Experience of oversighting the internal/external outsourcing.

·        Knowledge of Japanese law such as FIEA, Bank Act, Book Entry Transfer Act, Company Act, Tax Act, PIPL and so on.

·        Project Management. Experience of interacting with the wide range of people to achieve the goals.

·        The knowledge of Three lines of Defense framework.

·        Basic PC skills for MS Office. Preferable to have good skill set of Data Analytics.

·        Good communication skill to influence any peers from a different level of seniority and different culture background.
