The Opportunity:
The Infrastructure Architecture function partners with Application Architecture to:
• Deliver high quality technology platforms with tiered service levels
• Deliver cost savings & efficiency through reduced complexity
• Improve time to market for delivery of services
• Enable effective regulatory, audit & security controls
• Drive productivity & sustainability
What you’ll do:
- delivering new IT services, exploiting infrastructure technologies
- migrating applications to IaaS / PaaS platforms on internal and external cloud
- driving a greater utilization of virtualisation & lower cost storage
- migrating away from non-strategic technology platforms
- Determine business requirement and influence solution towards preferred HSBC Technology & FSA model
- Gauge strategic impact to business function, impacted upstream and downstream services and subsequent technology footprint
- Ensure logical design contributes to technology objectives
- Examine potential demise opportunities and propose deployment options
- Consider optimal service hosting and placement in line with strategy
- Delivering end to end technical infrastructure designs, ensuring Non-Functional Requirements are realised and validated
- Verify impact to adjacent services/systems and Validate deployment and support model
- Qualify technical acceptance of all components
- Review design and gain approval via architecture governance
- Optimise infrastructure with commercial sense
- On-hand Infrastructure architect experience with similar roles on the design of Cloud & On-prem Infrastructure solutionSolid system engineering background and understanding of ‘physics’ of infrastructure considerations behind
- Experience of writing codes and going thru pipelines of Build, deploy and Run…
- Good problem solving and analytic capabilities, able to tackle difficult technical issues and find appropriate solution.
- Good communication and presentation skills
- With an appetite for learning new technologies quickly, you are happy working on deep technical problems, collaborating with subject matter experts to agree solutions.
- You have a passion for infrastructure technology and want to accelerate adoption of new technologies in a safe and secure way.
- You are comfortable writing and presenting infrastructure designs for IT services.
- You are comfortable writing architecture strategy and presenting to senior management.

- You have a deep interest in cloud services (ideally GCP and/or Alicloud, AWS), and appreciate the complexities and benefits of using this technology. Ideally certified or ready to skill up.
- You bring an engineering mind-set to designing the infrastructure components of solutions, helping to achieve operational scale as well as system reliability.
What additional skills will be nice to have:
- Conceptual knowledge of the following areas and subject matter expert in some areas:
- Data centre hardware infrastructure (servers, networking, storage)
- Cloud technologies such as Google GCP, Alibaba Alicloud, Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure, as well as APIs and the full ecosystem
- Microservice & Container architecture, including Kubernetes
- Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (e.g. GitHub, Nexus)
- Automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet or Terraform
- Infrastructure as Code techniques
- Middleware technologies such as Websphere, Tomcat, Java, Messaging, Application Server or Web server
- Modern event systems , kafka , Confluent kafka, Pubsub..
- Networking (e.g. Cisco/F5 devices, TCP/UDP, Broadcast/Multicast, LAN/WAN, SDN)
- Server operating systems (Linux, Windows, Solaris),
- Server virtualization, for example VMware, Xen, Hyper-V or KVM
- Storage technologies such as Pure SAN, EMC SAN, NetApp NAS, CIFS, NFS; Object storage
- Databases. e.g. Oracle, MS SQL, NoSQL data stores, graph database
- Security technologies such as firewalls, HSMs, proxy servers, IDS/IPS, network segmentation tools
- Identity Access Management (e.g. Active Directory, LDAP, Privileged Access Management tools)
- High availability and DR techniques such as clustering (VCS & MSCS), data replication etc
- Collaboration tools (e.g. MS Teams, Confluence, Jira)
- AI, Gen-AI related technology (Open-AI, LLM , Vertex, etc)
