We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Project Manager
- Run the database practice capability within WPB IT for your products , leading and influencing a global virtual team of circa 50 DBAs across all value streams.
- Lead/Guide the Future State Architecture discussions from an WPB Database perspective ensuring teams adopt the most appropriate solutions accordingly.
- Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the virtual team by developing the capabilities for teams to adopt and automate manual tasks. Devolve responsibility where automation is not possible to the POD teams. Champion the use of Agile and DevOps principles/methodologies
- Identify key blockers and play a lead role in the removal of blockers and hence facilitate the implemenation of tactical and strategic solutions accordingly.
- Accountable for the WPB DB relationship between WPB, CTO, Cyber and the other GB/GFs. Collaborate with your peers to influence HSBC strategy to ensure we adapt/evolve to meet WPB requirements and vice versa.
- Act as escalation proint for all issues the asset classes are unable to resolve themselves.
- Move towards a federated but governed model for as much Infrastructure work as we can whilst ensuring we meet standards accordingly.
- Responsible for overseeing control compliance including vulnerability and patch management across our database estate
To be successful in this role, you should meet the following requirements:
- Expert, technical level knowledge in all aspects for 2 of the following database products: Oracle DB, PostgreSQL, DB2 LUW and MongoDB (all on RedHat Linux). Must include: extensive experience of designing, building and migrating to new DB servers; upgrading existing DB servers in-situ; day to day production support/troubleshooting.
- Strong knowledge of infrastructure in general including Operating System, Clustering, Storage, Network etc.
- Experience of DevOps deployment and monitoring tooling such as RunDeck, Ansible, Grafana, Puppet etc.
- Provide Architecture design and support for development projects from a database perspective
- Good practical knowledge of scripting e.g. in Bash, Perl, Python etc.
- Public Cloud (ideally AWS) experience an advantage
- Proven problem solver (technical and non-technical) who can lead from the front when required. Able to take a hands on/off view when managing problems.
- Proven manager with experience of managing physical /virtual teams (located locally and remotely) across the globe.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to translate technical details into easily understood and consumable data/reports.
- Have an automation/change mentality and strive for constant improvements via automated processes
- Have a keen interest in the latest technology and an eagerness to learn
