IFRS9 is an accounting standard which came into effect 1st Jan 2018 dealing with financial instruments accounting. The largest change delivered by IFRS9 is the introduction of an expected loss impairment model.  The IFRS9 Change Delivery team, managed by Group Finance Change, was established to deal with these changes and enable HSBC to report under the new requirements from the effective date of 1 January 2018. Post implementation of the accounting standard, the team has now transitioned to a BAU function and continue to support new build functionality and monthly runbook processes. The 3 main workstreams in the Programme are Wholesale, Retail and Finance which are responsible for the monthly delivery of models, data, systems, and process.

The Opportunity:

  • The role will be responsible for testing of Business and Finance driven changes in IFRS9 Impairment Calculation Engine developed by the Change delivery team to ensure it meet Business and Finance requirements appropriately. He/ She will also be responsible to support and ensure that the planned change smoothly transitions into production live environments per planned release timelines. The role requirement to have a hands on Test Lead who can guide the offshore team as well as perform testing of complex changes himself/herself. The candidate is expected to provide the functional and technical guidance to the team in functionally testing the IFRS9 changes. The role also needs to interact with stakeholders from all workstreams and upstream/ downstream systems to ensure seamless delivery
  • The role holder will be reporting to the AVP, Finance Systems Ops & Systems Maintenance within Accounting, and Financial Reporting Change Value Stream (‘AFR’).

What you’ll do:

Impact on the Business/Function

  • Understand the technical/ functional architecture of IFRS9 Impairment Calculation Engine
  • Work with IFRS9 Test Lead on planning for calculator and Sandbox modules
  • Understand and interpret the impairment calculations, Sandbox functionality and validation within the systems.
  • Support troubleshooting of user’s issues
  • Capable of Steering decisions on the Test Strategy, Test plans and Test Scope
  • Ensure Test Coverage for the Release requirements
  • Define and track the entry and exit criteria for all test phases and report the actual results/ defects/ status in the testing process

Impact to Customers/Stakeholders

  • Support Test Manager, Management team and project stakeholders during all phases in a release
  • Initiate and drive discussions with key stakeholders on requirements and testing scope and steer to sign-offs
  • Maintain effective relationship with all key stakeholders
  • Keep informed all stakeholders of the status updates and issue resolutions

  • Ensure that all business requirements are met and suitable test processes are in place to verify and validate them
  • Take accountability for ensuring change / implementation in compliance with Group Standards and Regulations
  • Communications are clear, documents are of a high quality
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • An understanding of the principles of ETL, Credit Risk and Regulatory Reporting.
  • Excellent knowledge of ETL testing and analysis
  • Proficient in interrogating databases via SAS and SQL queries
  • An understanding of systems delivery lifecycles and testing principles
  • Proficient in the use of test tools (such as JIRA) and test processes (e.g., defect management)
  • Be able to formulate test strategies and confident in running a successful test phase
  • An appreciation of systems and data architectures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • ISTQB certified is essential.
  • Knowledge of Hadoop/Cloudera systems would be advantageous

Technical Skills Sets

  • ETL tools - SAS, Python & Informatica, ODI
  • Visualization tools - Qlik, Power BI, Tableau, SAS VA
  • General Ledger Systems - Oracle, SAP, Fusion
  • Relational Database – Oracle, SQL, Big Data
  • Working knowledge on VB, PowerShell, Unix / Linux commands
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, Project)
  • Knowledge to Unix is desirable
  • Good Knowledge of Incident management tools and recovery process
  • Knowledge of Stress Testing applications is desirable

Personal Skills

  • Financial Services Test Experience across both internal reporting and regulatory requirements
  • Experience in testing, driven by IT systems implementation or enhancement, across a large organisation
  • Experience of working in a large banking organisation preferred

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Knowledge of finance functions such as ETL, Credit Risk and Reporting.
  • Understanding of SOX controls and user security framework would be required
  • Strong knowledge on providing Production Support for critical finance applications viz. GL systems, Regulatory, FP&A applications
