HSBC Insurance, UK are responsible for the manufacturing, sourcing and supply of insurance products and services for HSBC UK, first direct, M&S Bank and Commercial Banking, with external distribution for several product lines under both the HSBC and other brands. 

Actuarial roles work in several fields, primarily insurance and pensions, to manage risks. Responsibilities include the preparation of regular analyses and valuation calculations by product, statutory reporting to regulatory authorities and/or management, supporting the management of insurance rates, premiums, products, and policies, and supporting sales colleagues/channel partners in administrative areas such as customer quotes, information, training etc.

The UK and Group Insurance entities are supported by several Actuarial teams which are primarily based in Whiteley.  These teams are the UK Actuarial Function, UK Pricing Team, and other Group Actuarial teams.

We are looking for an Actuarial Analyst to join the UK Actuarial Function, based within the Modelling team.  You will contribute to the actuarial and analytical work produced in the following areas: experience analyses, financial reporting, local regulatory reporting, economic capital, model development and governance, pricing, and ad-hoc project work.

In this role you will:

•    Build knowledge of key systems and models used in the Actuarial Function:
          o    Prophet and PMCS – Cashflow modelling;
          o    Teradata DB \ SQL \ SAS \ Access DB – Data Manipulation and Processing, MI and Experience Analysis;
          o    Excel \ (limited) VBA – Reporting, summarisation, controls.
•    Learn \ maintain knowledge of key processes supporting data and MI production, analysis, cashflow modelling and hand-offs to downstream deliverables for monthly and quarterly EC\SII and IFRS17 reporting, and other BAU activities (eg. Basis Review).
•    Coordinate and review the work of actuarial trainees in carrying out these processes in conjunction with the GCB5 Production Team Manager.
•    Act as an expert ‘doer’ if required, eg. for ad-hoc \ urgent \ investigative work.
•    Ensure own work undertaken meets best practice and recognised actuarial standards (internal policies and external guidelines as set by professional bodies).
•    Maintain standards / requirements for actuarial work undertaken by the wider team by contributing to quality assurance of the deliverables.
•    Support the operation of controls, record-keeping, procedure and documentation updates, recording of change requirements and other housekeeping as may be required.
•    Help to monitor the systems environment, highlight any change impacts and ensure training & access documentation remains up to date.
•    Support process or model changes as required.  This is likely to provide some initial coding experience alongside testing and documentation work.
•    Support the team's achievement of model governance, documentation, audit and controls requirements as necessary.
•    Where the opportunity arises, become involved in engagement with stakeholders - eg. INGB Pricing and Products, INGB CDO team, ACE, Insurance Risk.
•    Mentor and coach trainee actuarial analysts in the Production Team with a focus on improving operational effectiveness and control.
•    Support departmental colleagues and members of the wider HSBC actuarial community by answering model and systems-related queries.
•    Support the running of regular team meetings and contribute towards departmental training activities.

Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

•    Starting or making progress through actuarial exams with the intention to progress to completion.
•    Able to apply knowledge of financial services products to a working environment.
•    Knowledge of Excel, VBA, SAS, SQL\Database and/or Prophet and awareness of Google Cloud Platform and Python.
•    Ability to communicate information in a confident and structured manner to all levels of management.
•    Ability to influence business managers, to establish and maintain co-operation.
•    Good organisational and planning skills.
•    Ability to operate within cross-functional teams.

This is a hybrid role and the base location for this role is Whiteley.
