HSBC’s presence in the Czech Republic consists primarily of a coverage team focused on CIB, which provides a full range of financial solutions to Global Corporates and International Mid-Market clients, as well as covering inbound Global Network Banking clients. At its core, the team aims to support Czech companies with their international business across products and geographies as well as inbound business from global CIB clients from other countries and regions. Our ambition is to be the Leading Corporate and Institutional Bank in Europe.

Reports into the CEO & Head of Banking, Germany, who provides oversight for HSBC’s business in Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria.

Principal Accountabilities and Requirements

• Design and execute HSBC’s strategy for the Czech Republic considering both local market competition and regulatory dynamics as well as full alignment to regional and global strategy.

• As Head of Banking in Czech Republic, lead the CIB coverage and support the team to grow and diversify the local Czech Global Corporate and International Mid-Market client portfolios, as well as a large inbound Global Network Banking portfolio.

• Lead and maintain a positive relationship with local regulators, including the Czech National Bank, local business groups and other relevant bodies such as the Czech Banking Association, ensuring HSBC’s interests are well represented, and HSBC’s reputation preserved positively.

• Lead the financial resource planning exercise to ensure that appropriate resources are deployed to meet key financial metrics and achieve business goals.

• Acquire new-to-bank Czech clients aligned to our strategy with a strong focus on companies with multi-country and multi-product banking needs.

• Define and execute the business development strategy for the local Czech client portfolio and inbound Global Network Banking portfolio, partnering with product partners across the global product suite of CIB and wider International Wealth and Private Banking businesses.

• Act as a senior sponsor for the largest and most important Czech clients, leading C-suite relationships and supporting the broader Client Strategic Plan.

• Manage country portfolio returns in line with our global return benchmarks.

• Understand and remain updated on key business and economic trends in Czech Republic that may present risks and opportunities for clients and our own business. Manages the business within the broader macroeconomic environment.

• Demonstrate full understanding and management of both financial and non-financial risks and ensure HSBC in the Czech Republic operates within risk appetite, maximizing profit for the group while minimizing operational losses.

• Understand and operate within the Group’s policies and procedures, ensuring completion of all mandatory trainings and proactively learn to deliver on our products and services to clients at the most senior level.

• Sets the tone from the top, champions an inclusive culture that is customer & employee centric.

• Oversee the effective development and deployment of human resources including effective succession planning, talent management and resourcing and performance management, ensuring the cultivation of a high performing team.

• Implement the Group’s performance management and reward strategies, promoting sustainable business growth aligning to responsible risk management and talent development.

• Lead in all aspects the broader branch in Czech Republic, including management of operations and functions teams that also support other countries in HSBCE.

Requirements

• In depth knowledge and experience in a wide array of banking areas. Strong management, leadership and interpersonal skills are mandatory to supervise and lead the business to achieve business targets as well as to coordinate businesses and functions within the country.

• Track record dealing with international / corporate clients, preferably within the Czech Banking market. (Other geographies also welcome)

• Strong banking experience with corporate lending, credit structures, risk assessment, cash and payment solutions and trade finance. Strong credit assessment skills particularly around more complex and structured facilities.

• Passionate client advocate with deep understanding of corporate client needs, with a demonstrable track record in delivering customer excellence on a global basis for CIB clients.

• Business acumen and commercial awareness, including economic, cultural, procedural and regulatory issues.

• Strategic thinker with a track record in developing and implementing market leading strategies.

• Ability to design and implement business strategies, originate business and deliver effective client solutions across financing, markets and flow products.

• Ability to interact and build trust and credibility with relationships at all levels of seniority including internal and external stakeholders, ‘C suite’, owner/proprietor client representatives.

• Cross cultural sensitivity and a dynamic personality to constructively engage with multicultural stakeholders (both internal and external)

• Capacity to think about the wider HSBC Group business – to take a Global view
