KYC Operations department is a part of Global Operations / Digital Business Services in HSBC structure. The objective is to provide Global Banking & Markets, Commercial Banking and Wealth & Private Banking clients with a globally consistent, and best in class KYC/CDD process, in over 50 countries. Depending on jurisdiction this can include entire end-to-end journey from onboarding request to HSBC account activation. KYC/CDD profiles are being prepared in accordance with Group and Regulatory Policy, both in Global and Local policies perspective, by obtaining information and documents as required from the client/business, undertaking all the necessary due diligence checks, ensuring appropriate escalations are followed and customers are correctly risk rated.

The Opportunity:

The main aspects of the role of Process Advisory Lead (“PAL”) are 

  • Ensuring due diligence reviews are undertaken to the required quality and detail on a timely basis via oversight over process design and implementation
  • Communicating effectively and having ability to lead discussions regarding complex queries with Quality function, Compliance, RMs/GRBs, BFCR or Wholesale Client Services stakeholders
  • Ensuring timely query resolution with a precise conclusion given with regards to risk or additional due diligence
  • Providing support, training and coaching to the KYC Ops Teams on interpretation of the applicable policies
  • Providing advice to KYC Ops management about upcoming process changes, policies implementation or any other ad hoc queries
  • Recommending improvements to KYC/CDD process based on PALs intimate knowledge and experience
  • Supporting process migration activities to/from GSC location

What you’ll do:

  • Supporting KYC Operations Team in updating Existing to Bank (ETB) and New to Bank (NTB) CDD profiles in accordance with the Group Policy.
  • Supporting KYC Operations Analysts and Quality Function in producing timely, high quality CDD profiles and address quality issues.
  • To have a good understanding of the Wholesale Global Line of Business procedures, local regulatory requirements and KYC Ops DIMs.
  • Understand and comply with internal control standards with no breaches of regulatory requirements complete.
  • Supporting Production teams to implement changes to the Wholesale policies effectively. Work with the KYC Operations Analysts and Managers to ensure timely completion of profiles and prioritize workload to meet objectives of the KYC Operations Management.
  • To provide technical support to the teams so that KYC Operations work is performed in an efficient, accurate and professional manner.
  • Ability to support KYC Ops by designing and delivering training for Production teams.
  • Ensure that common issues are escalated to line management where appropriate.
  • To maintain core standards of behavior at all times.
  • Proactive highlighting of audit and compliance issues to the management team. Ensure that all existing audit recommendations within their remit are closed out.
  • Ensure the escalation policies are followed.
  • Understand and demonstrate intelligent use of system tools and procedures.
  • To adhere to all audit requirements including but not limited to Declaration of Secrecy / Data Protection Act / Health Safety and Security / Clear Desk Policy / Process Specific Audit requirements / Compliance Requirements.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Excellent communication skills – Written & Verbal  (English & French).
  • Familiarity with Wholesale Line of Business Procedures.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of KYC Operations Analyst/QC experience with a financial institution or equivalent.
  • Pro-active and business orientated with proven ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands and ability to assess stakeholder needs to improve customer experience and showing resilience under pressure and providing best in class solutions.
  • Good knowledge of a wide variety client types including Financial Institutions, Trusts, Foundations, Government and State Owned bodies along with the wide range, and complex variety, of fund/corporate structures.
  • Ability to build relationships by communicating and working effectively with  consultants,  technical experts,  other PALs across the whole department, compliance and business.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with high degree of accuracy.
  • Capability to quickly learn new jurisdiction policies and guidance, and confidence in communication of these.
  • Able to adapt personal style and deal with on-going change in processes, policy and systems.
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude, flexibility in working hours and training – presentation, coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Analytical skills in respect of a wide variety document types.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of technology related applications used during KYC/CDD process. Ability to transfer this knowledge to production staff.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point skills.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Ability to perform production impact analysis and gap analysis on all the new regulatory and policy requirements or changes.
  • Ability to challenge BFCR, FCC or other stakeholders on proposed process changes.
  • AML qualification (e.g. CAMS, ICA) and or post graduate Compliance degree is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of popular business information services (BvD, D&B, Bankcheck etc.) is an advantage.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FATF, Egmont Group, BASEL recommendations and JMLSG is an advantage.
