The GCIO Chief Control Office (CCO) team plays an important role in enabling the bank to operate within its risk appetite by ensuring efficient and effective risk and control management. We do this by providing operational risk and control expertise, specialist technical knowledge and a deep understanding of the businesses and functions we serve.
Key activities include implementation and oversight of the Group’s Risk Management Framework, ongoing and targeted controls assessments, implementing and maintaining robust risk governance, and championing a proactive risk culture. GCIO CCO works closely with partners across all lines of defence and is responsible for maintaining positive relationships with our regulators and external partners.
What you’ll do
- Support the Delivery Lead in overseeing portfolio governance and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with Business and Transformation leads to prioritize and schedule program delivery.
- Monitor and challenge program performance, ensuring accountability and timely delivery.
- Partner with 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence to maintain strong risk and control frameworks.
- Ensure robust estimation practices for Sponsored Change Initiatives and Value Streams.
- Contribute to portfolio management activities including business case reviews, NFRs, and Clarity reporting.
- Analyze financials and delivery data to support decision-making and performance tracking.
- Build strong internal networks and act as an engaged member of the GCIO Portfolio & Accountability team.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- Proven experience in portfolio or program management within complex, matrixed organizations.
- Strong background in financial services, ideally within multinational banking environments.
- Solid understanding of technology delivery methodologies and operational management in banking.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven mindset.
- Strong financial and commercial acumen, including budget tracking and forecasting.
- Ability to manage operational risk and ensure compliance with governance standards.
- Skilled in stakeholder management, with the ability to influence at senior levels.
- Experience with project estimation techniques and translating financials into delivery metrics.
Nice to have:
- Familiarity with HSBC’s organizational structure, strategy, and internal processes.
- Experience using Clarity or similar portfolio management tools.
- Exposure to regulatory and compliance frameworks in financial services.
- Understanding of Agile, SAFe, or hybrid delivery models.
- Knowledge of emerging technologies and their impact on portfolio delivery.
- Experience working with global teams across multiple time zones.
- Certification in project or portfolio management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2, MSP).
- Background in business case development and benefits realization.
