We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Global Head of MSS Operations Technology.
Role purpose
This role is in the Corporate and Institutional Banking (CIB) and HSBC Europe (HBEU) Technology team. CIB delivers internationally focused solutions for clients, leveraging scale, talented people, unmatched international network and market leading capabilities across Global Payments Solutions, Global Trade Solutions, Markets and Securities Services, Investment banking, Global Coverage, Capital Financing, and Investment Banking Products.

The Head of MSS Operations Technology is a senior technology leader and strategic owner of the MSS Ops utility Value Stream, accountable for the end-to-end technology strategy, architecture evolution, engineering execution, and business partnership across MSS Operations.
This role is pivotal in integrating and modernizing our settlement, reconciliation, asset servicing platforms. This role is also responsible for rationalizing Workflow and Orchestration for operations activities to unlock the efficiencies.
The successful candidate will be a recognized engineering leader, a proven driver of value stream-led transformation, and an experienced partner to senior business stakeholders—particularly in delivering complex front to back operations technology programs.
Principal Accountabilities
Accountability and Leadership: Will define and evolve the end-to end technology strategy for the MSS Ops utility Value Stream, ensuring full alignment with MSS business strategy. The role involves acting as a key thought partner to the Global Head of MSS Operations, co-developing the platform and product roadmap. A core focus will be driving the simplification and convergence of platforms spanning confirmation, settlement, reconciliation, and asset servicing.
Stakeholder Engagement and Governance: Serve as the primary executive technology partner for senior business stakeholders, product owners, control functions, and key institutional clients. Represent MSS Operations Technology in senior governance forums including Technology Risk Committees, Architecture Boards, and Regulatory Change Councils. Ensure proactive management of risk, audit actions, platform change, and incident resolution across all domains. Act as the technology lead in regional and global ExCo presentations, regulatory dialogues, and board-level reviews.
Strategic Direction and Architecture: Shape and communicate the multi-year technology strategy for MSS Ops utility value stream, integrating regulatory priorities, client expectations, enterprise architecture, and business growth/efficiency targets. Drive convergence across domains towards a scalable and modular architecture. Champion shared services, cross-domain data infrastructure, and API-led connectivity to streamline fund lifecycle operations and reduce fragmentation. The Head of MSS Operations Technology will champion engineering best practices and platform reusability across the enterprise ensuring solutions are secure, resilient, and built to last.
Budget, Spend and Commercial Management: Own and manage the global technology budget for MSS Operations Technology. Govern allocation across functional domains in alignment with strategic outcomes, technology debt reduction, and operational resilience. Track and report on investment ROI, efficiency savings, and platform cost transparency. Lead commercial relationships with key vendors, third-party platforms, and delivery partners; negotiate long-term agreements to support capability growth and innovation at scale.
Value Stream Execution: As the value stream owner, the role is accountable for quarterly planning, prioritisation of investment, and coordination across delivery and engineering teams. Embedding an agile-at-scale and engineering-first culture, this leader will drive the execution of technology initiatives across global teams, ensuring all deliverables are measurable and aligned to client outcomes, control objectives and commercial value.
Platform Oversight and Technology Risk: Oversee the performance, resilience, and risk posture of all MSS Operations platforms (in-house and vendor) including core systems and applications provided as part of the end-to-end service. Ensure that platform owners (domain Directors) maintain high standards of reliability, change discipline, and audit readiness. Provide escalation support for technology incidents and oversee root cause and remediation delivery. Align platform roadmaps with architectural guardrails, cybersecurity requirements and expected DORA and GRAS metrics.
Transformation & Client-Focused Innovation: Lead the MSS Operations technology transformation agenda, focusing on simplification, digitisation, and client enablement. Sponsor strategic programmes including cloud migration, AI/ML deployment, API enablement, digital asset capability, and workflow automation. Influence product strategy through technology insight and collaborate closely with Operations teams to streamline integration and reduce time-to-market. Attend industry forums to promote brand and learn from peers and present to clients to win business and maintain healthy organisation relationship.
People and Talent Leadership: The role includes leading a global team of senior engineers, architects, and delivery leads. The Head of MSS Operations Technology will be responsible for building a high-performance, inclusive culture that supports innovation and continuous improvement. They will also drive strategic workforce planning and develop future-ready talent aligned with business and platform evolution.

• Financial Services experience: A strategic leader with deep knowledge of the financial services industry and global marketplace.
• Technology leadership: Understanding and experience of the technology solutions, industry trends and vendor landscape that support MSS operations. Experience in running MSS Operations Tech teams as well as managing relationships with front to back functions and senior stakeholders. A broad and comprehensive understanding of the different systems, theories, and practices relevant to technology
• Leadership Breadth: Consistently demonstrates cross-functional experience with a perspective on regional and business activities. Requires very strong abilities in critical thinking, creativity, and innovation in developing new concepts, theories, and products to address complex and strategic issues.

Proven record of effective management, including planning and decision-making, identifying priorities and bringing projects to successful completion in a timely manner; and maintaining a focus on high standards.
• People leader: Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work across organizations at all levels. Extensive experience in building and growing a high performing diverse team.
• Future focus: Hands-on experience across multiple complex domains and technology stacks. Extensive experience and understanding of API technologies. Emerging technologies, e.g., AI at scale or digital assets.
