The Opportunity:
We are building a new platforms organisation for HSBC and looking for an experienced Head of Platforms to join the team. You will have leadership over all technical aspects, roadmap, development and 24/7 operations for our strategic application hosting platforms across multiple public and private cloud venues. You will need to be both a visionary engineer and hands-on product owner. You will have the leadership role to bring the platforms vision to reality, taking them from current state into strategic end state. You should possess strategic thinking and strong business acumen, being well-versed in current software, SaaS, PaaS and engineering trends and familiar with a variety of solutions. You will be a part of the management team, working closely with our global team, our internal customers and partners.
What you’ll do:
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
• Define the technology roadmap for application hosting platforms
• Responsible for the overall technology strategy, short- medium and long-term
• Responsible for platform development, product functionality and development
• Responsible for maintaining a 24/7/365 operations with global users, support and operations
• Define the right level of abstraction and service interface for the platforms to meet the needs of your customers, protect the bank from cyber threats, and increase our operational resilience
• Identify key technologies that might be important today or in the future
Leadership & Teamwork
• Proven experience leading large engineering and operational teams
• Experience operating platforms at scale.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Essential Experience:
• Proven hands-on engineering experience and industry experience of running Engineering at scale including processes, technologies, challenges, strategy
• Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within multiple disciplines or a fast changing discipline
• Understanding of relevant tools and platforms (e.g. cloud platforms, web technologies, client-server technologies, continuous integration and deployment), with an eagerness to learn about new and unfamiliar technologies.
• Knowledge of technology and technology trends, and the ability to provide technology consultancy to senior business heads
• The role requires a sound understanding of a value unit / product / region / legal entity, alongside a good understanding of the industry and the challenges and changes in the sector
• Established industry relationships with Executives at large technology vendors
• Experience in planning and managing significant expenditure in a complex organization
• This role will operate in a global transformation capacity
• This role will require detailed understanding of all business areas across the bank and relevant technology domains
• The role will be responsible for developing thought leadership and best practice, including engagement with vendors / third parties
• The role requires an extremely high level of interactive listening, in order to negotiate with others often at the highest level
