Role Purpose:
HSBC Life operates in Macau through a branch of HSBC Life (International) Limited [INHK]. The business was relaunched in late-2021 under a “Wealth Planning” model. INHK is committed to grow the Macau business through driving further productivity and organic growth within the WPS channel, optimizing referral arrangements, and structuring affinity partnerships with organizations across the GBA. The role-holder is responsible for (i) developing this growth strategy including identification of local proposition/product and marketing needs, (ii) delivering this FRP commitment and (iii) executing on INHK’s long-term strategy in Macau.
The role-holder, as the de-facto Head of HSBC’s insurance franchise in Macau will also be expected to represent HSBC in all industry and regulatory forums as deemed appropriate (including MIA). As such the role-holder is both responsible for managing the onshore people and business activities as well as being the key interface with INHK functional and departmental leadership in Hong Kong.
The role-holder is an attendee of INHK/INAP EXCO and a member of INHK/INAP Product Committee, Distribution Forum and Risk Management Meeting.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Provide leadership across the Macau branch, driving the people agenda and role modelling the HSBC values across 1LOD and 2LOD teams.
- Responsible for determining the actions to deliver strategic, commercial, and customer targets including FRP, DOP and COP
- Provide constructive challenge to existing practices/proposed initiatives and generate new and innovative solutions to address complex issues
- Deliver future business capabilities required to implement the strategy and drive the Macau branch towards its desired operating model, ensuring the model is maintained
- Have oversight on overall financial performance including direct and indirect costs, ensuring operations and activities are within budget. Where required, initiating a change acceptance framework to enable any synergies or cost savings to be fed into the budget
Customers and Stakeholders
- Represent HSBC Life externally with clients, current and prospective banking and affinity partners, regulators and other third parties within Macau
- Leverage resources across the Macau branch functions as well as functions in HSBC Life Hong Kong to deliver products and services in line with the HSBC Life and Group strategy
- Manage key internal senior management stakeholders across INHK and Group
- Drive strong performance while embedding a values-led culture with the immediate team and across wider regional team

Information
- A detailed knowledge of insurance products and services
- Strong leadership, people management and interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate and influence at all levels of the organisation and with external clients
- Strong networker with capability to build broad and effective local relationships
- Highly effective senior stakeholder management across the region and group
- Strong commercial acumen to drive multi-channel growth in line with the HSBC group strategy, and demonstrate familiarity with bank and insurance regulations, compliance and sales quality matters
- Ideally have experience of the Greater Bay Area business environment and driving initiatives capturing opportunities in the region
- Demonstrated knowledge of distribution processes and infrastructure, and how to leverage technology to meet business needs
- Experience working across cultures
- Degree in finance, business or a related discipline with preference for advanced degree completion
- Extensive years of work experience gained from banking or insurance company
- Excellent command of spoken and written English and Cantonese, good spoken Mandarin is an added advantage
- To be considered for this role, the relevant right to work in Macau is required.
