Responsible for providing comprehensive legal guidance to the Legal Negotiators and all global businesses and functions, the CIB Legal Admins Bangalore team brings a diverse range of skills and experience to support the wider Legal Team across numerous countries and territories in which our function operates.

The Opportunity:

  • Under the Global Legal Team, the Bangalore Legal team provides both negotiation and advisory services in business lines like Wholesale, Retail Banking Wealth Management, Commercial Banking & Global Banking & Markets.
  • Bangalore Legal provides advice, guidance and support to Global Banking and Markets by negotiating and executing master trading documentation such as the ISDA Master Agreement and Credit Support Annex (foreign exchange and derivatives trading), the Global Master Repurchase Agreement or Master Repurchase Agreement (repo trading) and the Global Master Securities Lending Agreement (securities lending/borrowing) and other industry-standard documentation.
  • The CIB Legal Admin Team is set-up within the Bangalore Legal Team to support the requirements of the HSBC Legal Negotiators distributed across the Globe. This opportunity will enable the individual to assist in managing the Admin Team, while stepping up where required.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide high quality administrative support to Negotiators and Team Leads distributed across the Globe and Business Functions.
  • Support Negotiators during the Negotiation process (where requested) and the Execution process. Monitor and track all outgoing original agreements and handle all ancillary post-execution matters upon completion. Where delegated by Negotiators, follow up regularly with Clients on status of outstanding execution copies, and escalate back to Negotiator in a timely manner if the Documentation or supporting information remains outstanding.
  • Manage Document execution process for Negotiators, including filing, preparation of execution copies and submitting the documentation for signature by authorised signatories.
  • Manage post-execution process, including archiving/safekeeping, creation and distribution of documentation execution notifications (where applicable), and to manage the coding of agreed terms into HSBC’s global Traded Markets Documentation repository (in collaboration with the other stakeholders) immediately following documentation execution.
  • Creation and maintenance of appropriate records and databases/systems and filing systems, Global Client On-boarding System, Global Traded Markets Documentation repository, reports, scanning, archiving and retrieval of original agreements and/or working files etc). Ensuring that documentation information is accurately recorded on appropriate systems (inc. obtaining all relevant HSBC client codes).
  • Respond to incoming general inquiries to the Team and retrieve documents and information from the Traded Markets Documentation repository as requested.
  • Ensure that Management Information reports (ad-hoc, weekly and month-end) are produced accurately and in a timely manner, or if such reports are produced outside the Team, provide such input and support as required for the timely delivery of such reports.
  • Participate in documentation remediation exercises and lead any reconciliation deliveries
  • Support system development initiatives where required, e.g. Client On-boarding System, Negotiation workflow system, and enhancements to HSBC’s Traded Markets Documentation repository.
  • To maintain HSBC Internal Control standards, including the timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • To be aware of the Operational Risk scenario associated with your role and act in a manner that takes account of operational risk considerations.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Over 5 years of experience in banking/legal operations a must
  • Knowledge of Derivative, Collateral, Repo and Securities Lending Agreements a must
  • Excellent time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Good interpretation, analytical & judgmental skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Required to be detail oriented and must have exceptional attention to detail
  • Personal drive to provide excellent customer service and achieve customer delight
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision and personal ownership
  • Must be a good as a team player as well as individual contributor
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the Legal team and 3rd Party Relationship Managers
  • Be a proactive and dynamic team player and has a strong sense of ownership and responsibility
  • Understanding of Traded Markets documentation and a basic understanding of risk and operational issues relating thereto is an advantage

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Effective understanding of the ancillary functions which influence the smooth delivery of Legal Operations, downstream and upstream
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be highly organized and have a strong understanding of what needs to be prioritised
  • Capable of building strong relationships with internal and external clients
  • Able to work effectively in a pressurized and time sensitive environment
  • Knowledge of financial products/instruments and their regulatory demands (eg. Dodd Frank, EMIR)
