This role will provide an opportunity to work with stakeholders across management companies (mancos) in UK, Luxembourg, Guernsey, France, Hong Kong, Singapore and US.
Responsibility is to work with tax advisors to ensure relevant data is available for completing timely tax filings.
Strategic thinker who can identify improvement opportunities in existing processes and ensure there is consistency in activities performed for all the management companies
Expected to be fungible and interested in learning activities across the team
Appropriate governance over tax deliverables through a monitored tax calendar shared across jurisdictions
What you’ll do:
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
Review preparation of individual and corporate tax returns in the international market
Gather insights on Tax related developments through our appointed vendors (Big 4) and ensure all our Tax activities are completed in accordance with the regulations
Completion of tax documentation for local authorities (such as W8-BEN forms)
Co-ordinate Investor Tax reporting process for UK Fund Investors within HSBC and ensure accurate data is provided to Tax agent
Set up tax advisors at account opening where needed
Provide data for tax declarations and their review. Ensure that declarations are submitted within deadlines.
Liaise with tax advisors and ensure that questions from local authorities are answered
Assist with tax audits by providing necessary documentation
Staying updated on changes in tax laws and regulations
Maintain accurate records of documents including tax-returns, supporting schedules, correspondence with tax authorities
Leadership & Teamwork
Build and maintain string working relationships with teams across regions and functions
Proactively engage with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment and readiness for tax deadlines
Provide knowledge transfer and best practice sharing with the team
Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Functional Knowledge
Understand Tax implications for Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Private credit, Real estate Mutual Funds, Regulated Investment Companies etc
At least 3 years of experience in dealing with Taxation in Alternative Investment products like private credit, hedge funds etc
Proficiency in financial accounting principles and practices including knowledge of GAAP and IFRS
Basic understanding and working knowledge of IRS Forms W-9 and W-8 and their associated requirements
Education to degree level in a quantitative subject (finance, accounting and tax)
Being aware of the changes in the market and the tax code
Outstanding communication skills, capable of dealing with clients and intermediaries
Ability to work to tight deadlines under pressure, while maintaining close attention to detail
Excellent organizational and time management skills with a positive and pro-active ‘can do’ attitude
Ability to work remotely with diverse teams of people on a cross-border basis.
Experience in implementing automated workflows is desired but not mandatory
