Finance Operations (FinOps) is an integral part of Global Finance, supporting teams around the globe through high quality delivery across a broad range of Finance activities. FinOps operates as one connected team of c3k FTEs (c35% of Global Finance) organized around key global processes; FinOps operates in multiple locations in India, Poland, priority and network markets. FinOps is currently undergoing a significant transformation to realign existing ‘global process owners’ towards the three future pillars, namely Accounting Operations, Data Operations and regionally led Reporting Operations.
Management Reporting is a sub-function of FinOps and one of the aforementioned ‘global process owners’, specializing in the delivery of reports and insights for the Global Businesses – these cover revenue and sales performance, cost analysis, balance sheet management and client profitability, Group Business disclosures and Governance. MR looks to partner with in-country Business Finance (BF) teams and align to similar strategic objectives to ensure effective finance partnering to the Business – both BF and MR are integrated with Insight & Advisory vision.
The Opportunity:
The role is part of Management Reporting team. The purpose of the team is to work closely with the Head of Business Disclosures and Governance in driving insightful and accurate business and financial disclosure to internal and external stakeholders, underpinned by robust financial analysis, governance and controls; drive the continued development of key group-wide disclosure priorities and controls, and support key governance forums. The role requires confident and proactive engagement with senior stakeholders and the ability to generate high-quality written output.
The role holder will have a broad role with strong focus on external reporting encompassing: -
The preparation of business performance commentary, at both a Group and segment level, for inclusion in the Group quarterly results announcements, working collaboratively with business segment and legal entity finance teams to ensure commentary is insightful, accurate, fair and balanced
Understanding Group and business segments financial performance relative to the Group’s strategy and across a range of performance metrics. This will require the role holder to prepare insightful analysis and commentaries
The preparation of supporting analysis that underpins external performance commentary under tight timelines
The verification of key financial and business disclosures; ensuring disclosure is accurate, complete and from trusted sources with no material control or process deficiencies
Strategic collaboration with stakeholder groups encompassing Group Financial Planning & Analysis, Business Finance, Investor Relations, Controllership, Risk, Regulatory and Treasury teams
Supporting the preparation of papers for Global Financial Controller, Group Operating Committee and Group Audit Committee, writing summary emails and briefing notes to facilitate insightful financial analysis. Emphasis is on highlighting key issues in a succinct and easily understandable format
Leading the end-to-end co-ordination of the teams involvement in the production process across externally published reporting documents, including the Group’s Annual Reports and Accounts, Interim Reports, quarterly presentation to analysts and investors
Lead projects focusing on enhancing controls governance process, process simplification and standardization resulting in raising standards on controls, governance aligned with Group strategic objectives
Building connections with Financial Reporting, IFRS teams on reporting updates accounting impacts on reporting e.g IFRS18, assessing impact on Group disclosures and translation to our quarterly reporting process
Liaising with the Group’s auditors on specific areas of focus
Collaboration with Finance Change, Digital Enablement to drive process automation initiative
The role holder will be supported by team members based in London and India, as well as working closely with colleagues across HSBC locations
This role will suit an individual who enjoys teamwork and is keen to develop their knowledge of Group financial disclosures, Controllership, governance and Group and segment financial performance.
The jobholder will be required to understand the Group’s strategy.
The jobholder will need to constantly engage with a broad range of Finance stakeholders for both BAU outcomes and building commercial acumen, as well as various stakeholders in FinOps to ensure a joined-up approach.
The jobholder is expected to be a self-starter and should be able to ask the right questions and use judgement to adapt appropriately to a dynamic environment.

The jobholder will also continually reassess the operational risks and likelihood of operational risk occurring. This will be achieved by reviewing risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing global economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new processes. Effective and timely remedial action should be evidenced.
Observation of Internal Controls
The jobholder will adopt the Group Compliance Policy by escalating any identified compliance risk in liaison with, Global Compliance Officer, Area Compliance Officer or Local Compliance Officer. The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply.
What you will need to succeed in the role:
Technical Skill Requirements
Recognized professional accounting qualification predominantly in Finance, experience in Finance Operations is helpful but not essential.
Understanding of data architecture, finance and accounting systems (including TM1 and Saracen), plus IFRS reporting and disclosure requirements.
Ability to distill and understand large volumes of financial data and information, and produce commentary to an externally disclosable standard that is both accurate and understandable to both financial and non-financial users
Commercial business knowledge which includes a solid understanding of the strategic objectives of the business segments and Group, Legal Entities framework with ability to communicate these confidently to all stakeholder groups.
Knowledge of Finance processes including planning, budgeting, forecasting, P&L analysis, financial modelling and management reporting.
Experience of designing, implementing and maintaining an effective control framework to ensure high quality repeatable delivery.
Skilled in usage and adoption of digital technology such as automation and visualization tools
