Job description

Business: Wealth & Personal Banking IT

Recruiter Name :  Alice Y S Liang

Location: Guangzhou / Xi'an

Why join us?

  • The WPB Engineering Foundation team’s mission is to analyze societal, financial, and technological trends effecting economic activity and the financial services industry in particular and bring that knowledge into HSBC to create new digital opportunities that are aligned to business goals.
  • WPB Engineering Foundation will partner with internal and external groups to develop propositions that have a substantial ‘outside in’ aspect such that HSBC establishes a significant external presence in domains like ecosystems and BaaS. WPB Engineering Foundation will be very active in the external innovation ecosystem, looking for tools, techniques, propositions, and partners that can be brought to bear within HSBC to augment our digital agenda. At the center of its services will be an ability to identify, incubate and accelerate new products and services; the team members will have a diverse background in design, strategy, technology, and products, combined with a knowledge of the external market. Its skillset will compliment those of internal staff and bring a more entrepreneurial approach: WPB Engineering Foundation will utilize the principles of Lean Startup Methodology and a venture capital-style portfolio management and will imbed those into HSBC’s Agile methodology.
  • WPB Engineering Foundation will work closely with the other Innovation teams, especially Catalyst which can capitalize on its external ecosystem knowledge to add value to Catalyst’s projects. The skillsets are equivalent across WPB Engineering Foundation so its members can move across teams to load balance project needs or to offer career options to individuals. While WPB Engineering Foundation both provide external market knowledge, innovation expertise (e.g. lean methodology, design), specialized resources, access to world-class partners, and targeted funding, the primary difference between the two is that WPB Engineering Foundation focuses on scaling new propositions to stage A/B, while Catalyst focuses on internal HSBC digital innovation projects that need to scale further (i.e. Stage C/D). Both will use an incubator model, including leveraging innovation labs to perform experimentation.
  • Success will be measured by generating new ideas that are developed quickly into prototypes and Minimum Viable Products. One global team will exist in Asia given the concentration of industry change, but will have an ability to deliver in other markets. WPB Engineering Foundation will focus on the product and service areas of highest interest to HSBC in terms of its digital strategy, primarily Banking as a Service and Ecosystems, to deliver high-value use digital products and service in use cases in high growth regions.
  • Working closely with senior business management, the Software Engineering Manager will determine the best way to engage with the business delivery teams and develop the delivery mechanisms accordingly to achieve accelerated time to market and more compelling customer experiences.
  • This is a business and partner facing role with broad technical skills, deep industry knowledge, and good business acumen. The Software Engineering Manager is a subject matter expert in one or more categories that may include: cloud, web based technologies, data and analytical technologies, distributed systems, API’s.
