In this role, you will:
HSBC aims to be the #1 Corporate and Institutional bank (CIB) in the world, building on our existing areas of strength and driving new growth by positioning HSBC for long-term success. Sustainability including the transition to net zero remains a key priority for HSBC and Sustainable Finance and Transition (SF&T) is accountable for the delivery of the commercial opportunity and net zero commitments.
Sustainable Capex is expected to grow from $3tr today to $5trn by 2030; priority identified themes could generate an addressable wallet for banks of $80-110bn in annual revenue. This represents a significant growth opportunity from the current SF&T business today.
The strategy to capture this opportunity is centred around 3 reinforcing strategic drivers:
1. Leading Bank for fast growing transition ecosystems, with a focus on clean power, electrification of transport, data centres and AI
2. Strategic transition partner for all our clients, enabling investment in innovation and opportunity, across sectors and their value chains
3. Bank of choice to catalyse emerging climate tech, from international expansion to first-of-a kind infrastructure projects
Reporting to Director of Sustainable Finance and transition, the Manager, Sustainable Finance and transition will be responsible for supporting the execution of the sustainability commercialisation strategy in China.
- Support the development of sustainability content and thought leadership:
- Work with global teams and sustainability function to develop market leading content to support C-suite dialogue, market and sector insights, buy-side intel, access to investment opportunities
- Support client engagement and origination:
- Client planning: Work with GRBs on client planning leading the SFT component of the client plan
- Strategic Transition Engagement: Manage policies, financed emissions, transition engagement questionnaire and transition plan assessments along with coverage team
- Develop client sustainability insights, Pitch propositions bringing along ESG product partners where relevant
- Originate sustainable finance across all products and lead structuring and execution of sustainable finance deals for loans
- Support origination of non-sustainable finance labelled products through strategic sustainability dialogue
- Develop relationship with individuals responsible for sustainability agenda at client (CSO, COO, Innovation teams, investment teams…)
- Connect clients to relevant partners and climate tech providers
- Innovative solutions and origination: Inform and launch proposition to support clients in their transition journey based on customer needs
- Coordination & connectivity: Enable and upskill frontline teams, coordinating across products and Group Sustainability to provide commercialization and risk management
- Marketing and communication: work with marketing and communication partners to promote HSBC's efforts in this space including participating and speaking in industry events.
To be successful in the role, you should meet the following requirements:
• Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives to identify sustainability-driven business opportunities within a client segment, guiding bankers to position relevant solutions and deepen client relationships to capture a greater share of wallet
• Knowledge of key sustainability topics and experience in holding a technical sustainability related conversation
• Knowledge of banking products and experience working closely with transaction banking and event product partners
• Experience with originating and executing sustainable finance labelled products
• Experience in informing and commercialising product and proposition development
• Experience of building strong relationships with first line and second line Risk partners and functions
• Experience of creating a 'one team' approach to bringing people together to drive outcomes and organisational change
• Demonstrate success in driving forward priority change with pace, whilst setting and handling realistic expectations, which often means having robust conversations up front
• Demonstrate strong work diligence and accountability by consistently following through on client requests, ensuring timely and accurate execution of deliverables, and maintain clear, proactive communication throughout all stages of client and internal engagements
• Proven track record of flexibility and resourcefulness in fluid environments of constantly evolving priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group
• Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels
