The US Chief Control Officer (CCO) is an executive-level role responsible for improving the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) framework embeddedness and effectiveness across the Bank. The role leads and influences conversations with Senior Management and Regulators, including developing a trusted partnership with the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the US.
This proactive, centralized organization is designed to strengthen risk frameworks, risk management and risk governance to enable a safer bank; partner with Risk and Control Owners to serve as trusted advisors and create a culture of continuous improvement and consistent risk management; enable accountability of Risk and Control owners to positively impact the control environment; and improve the risk and control landscape through forward-looking expertise and knowledge of industry trends.
As our US Chief Control Officer you will:
- Drive execution of the US CCO optimization to realize agreed savings
- Support, drive and deliver strategic control and change initiatives across the entity to improve the Bank’s risk profile
- Drive and foster a continuous improvement and learning environment
- Drive true root causes analysis and remediation, enabling holistic read-across capabilities to proactively eliminate issues across the entity
- Drive continuous reduction in CCO cost centre and maintain discipline on headcount and FTE
- Lead end-to-end process definition to identify potential points of failure within these processes, and ensure adequate controls and procedures are in place to ensure resilience
- Leverage best practice across similar business activities for different entities to enhance service and efficiency
- Maintain close working relationship with all COO CIB and US functions and departments
- Collaborate and drive a risk-aware culture, partnering with 2LOD and Internal Audit, without breaking their independence and oversight of the CCO function
- Lead and influence regulatory exams and continuously monitor related meetings
For this role, HSBC targets a pay range between $220,000.00 and $350,000.00
The final fixed pay offer will depend on the candidate and a number of variables, including but not limited to, role responsibilities, skill set, depth of experience and education, licensing/certification requirements, internal relativity, and specific work location.

You´ll likely have the following qualifications to succeed in this role:
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in management, finance, economics, related field or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred
- Very strong knowledge of global and regional/country regulatory landscape and ability to assess the impact of proposed changes in regulatory rules to the Bank
- Strategic thinker, with the ability to develop vision and to anticipate the “next issue”
- Evidence of self-development across numerous disciplines
- The following certifications would be useful for this role: CRISK, ACA, ACCA or equivalent qualified, IT Risk qualification (CISM, ITIL, CISA, CISSP, COSO or equivalent)
- Deep and thorough understanding of NFR Framework Management and Issues Management policy standards [both from a theory and practitioner status]
- Ability to manage and work within a matrixed global business / entity structure
- Excellent communication, influencing and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key players in industry and regulatory agencies with aim of influencing policy decisions to protect the Bank’s interests
- Outstanding relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels of the organization, e.g., “can tell a story”
