The Opportunity:

  • CIB Data and Analytics (CIB D&A) is a hub of advanced analytics competency, providing high-end analytics services across global businesses and global functions. The work done in CIB D&A forms a vital input towards for strategic planning by the senior management for businesses and enables effective decision making along with addressing unforeseen challenges.
    Today, the CIB D&A team generates value across the group through a wide variety of data and analytic solutions and related business consulting. CIB D&A has become a one-stop shop for the CIB D&A section of the group’s analytic needs leading the integration of analytics and data-driven decisions not only in traditional areas such as CIB D&A & Commercial Banking but also in new domains such as Regulatory, Operations, Procurement, Credit & Lending, IT Infrastructure, and Financial Crime Risk. It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management and analysis.
    The team based out of multiple locations across the GSCs (India/China/Mexico/Poland) providing analytics, data & insight support to various CIB D&A, CMB/ GB portfolios. Team’s focus is on using logical thought process and relevant statistical techniques and right tools & techniques & productize scaled solutions to analyse product portfolio metrics and risk behaviour to arrive at value-based optimum decisions.

Role purpose (overall high level summary of the role)

  • This function is part of the CIB D&A COO function and aims at bringing together existing CMB and GB D&A functions into a single CIB D&A Data & Analytics function. As part of this significant programme of change, the function is expected to re-design and rationalize the Analytics, Technology, Architecture and Data. We are seeking an Analyst – Business Consulting to join the Data Science chapter in our team. The person will play a key part in using the power of data to solve problems, improve efficiency and generate actionable insights to support the business operations within CIB D&A. The person will work closely with business stakeholders and other data professionals to develop and implement data-driven solutions for various Whole use cases.

  • Cascades business strategy and operational goals gaining commitment to them
  • Guides and supports management team through periods of change
  • Provides clear direction and sets performance targets for business unit team managers
  • Pre-dominant specialist may oversee and support a number of senior specialists
  • Build and leverage deep relationships with senior leaders to understand key strategic issues and imperatives, define opportunities, prioritise and meet demand.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management capabilities; the power to motivate, influence and engage audiences across group and at all levels throughout the business; the ability to make the complex simple and inspire action through analytics and insight.

  • Become a trusted advisor, manage stakeholder’s expectations and working relationships with the team focusing on transparency and collaboration

Leadership & Teamwork  

  • Develop innovative and impactful data-based tools and models for propensity modeling and risk mitigation, continuously evaluate the effectiveness of models and make recommendations for improvements. 
  • Extract, transform, and load (ETL) from various sources, ensuring data quality, accuracy and integrity. Design and optimize data pipelines, ensuring efficient data extraction, storage and processing. 
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of complex transactional and demographic datasets to identify patterns for identifying risk and opportunities.
  • Extract and integrate data from external sources, such as public databases, social media platforms and third-party vendors to enhance advanced analytics capabilities.
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives and overall analytics strategy under the CIB D&A data science and analytics head.
  • Advocate and promote the use of data science to drive fact-based activity and behavior in CIB D&A banking globally.
  • Engage various stakeholders to understand and collect project requirement, present analysis and or results, make recommendations on strategy formulation and solicit project feedback
  • Work with and leverage solutions and approaches developed by the wider HSBC Analytics community.
  • Keeping up to date on the latest advanced analytics and big data technologies. Engage with academia on shared research topics related to new trends in advanced analytics.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Good to have knowledge of Banking domain use cases with specific applications to data science problems.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of relevant experience, preferably in banking and financial sector
  • Decision-making to plan and implement the change
  • Governance support to ensure change is communicated, adheres to best practices and evidence decision-making appropriately
  • Active in the wider industry with strong contacts and connections in both academia and commerce; an industry ‘voice’ within the analytics space
  • Data analytics tools such as Python, Spark, and HadoopTrack record of developing successful Analytics functions delivering actionable insights
  • Track-record of developing and implementing strategy for growing evolving a new capability
  • Track-record of managing deliveries of data heavy programmes of work.
  • Track-record of leading Agile multi-disciplined teams to deliver exceptional customer service and value
  • Track-record of delivering analytics within Financial Institutions
  • Experience in delivering in a highly regulated environment
  • Knowledge of MLOps and ML engineering pipelines preferable
  • University degree in Computer Science, Finance, Statistics, Mathematics or any other quantitative related discipline, PhD or Master degree is highly preferred.
  • In depth knowledge and experience with machine learning techniques and algorithms. Experience with cloud analytics platforms such as GCP, Azure and AWS and big data platforms such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • High technical aptitude, problem solving abilities, intellectual curiosity, motivation, and passion for data discovery
  • Open minded and self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills as well as strong sense of responsibility
  • Experience in commercial bank is a plus but not necessary.
  • Attention to details, with good communication and presentation skills
  • Contribute to innovation initiatives and overall data science strategy under the CIB D&A data science head.
  • Advocate and promote the use of data science to drive fact-based activity and behaviour in CIB D&A banking globally.
  • Keeping up to date on the latest advanced analytics and big data technologies. Engage with academia on shared research topics related to new trends in advanced analytics.
  • Good to have experience leading and delivering applications leveraging Gen AI tools and APIs.
