The Wholesale Change and Simplification Manager is a specialised role leading strategic initiatives within Wholesale Banking (WSB) to deliver high-impact projects that enhance operational efficiency, elevate client experiences, and align with HSBC’s global strategy. This involves managing end-to-end project delivery, fostering cross-functional collaboration, and leveraging innovative technologies to drive measurable business outcomes. 


Responsibilities:

  • Identify and articulate strategic change objectives, success criteria, and deliverables, developing clear project plans, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Oversee multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring they meet time, budget and quality standards while proactively managing risks, dependencies, and issues.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders (e.g. Operations, IT, Compliance) to capture requirements, refine scope, and maintain alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Provide regular updates to governance forums, highlight milestones, risk, and mitigation strategies to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Identify and champion opportunities for process improvements or modern delivery methods (e.g. Agile) to drive more efficient and innovative outcomes.
  • Integrate HSBC’s change framework, risk management frameworks, and regulatory requirements into project activities, escalating significant issues promptly.
  • Coordinate market activation efforts with stakeholders e.g. Product, Marketing, frontline teams, etc., gathering feedback from users to refine solutions.
  • Ensure successful adoption by overseeing readiness activities, training, and stakeholder engagement so that strategic changes land effectively and deliver sustained benefit.
  • Define and measure expected financial, operational, and customer benefits, tracking progress continuously to maximise return on investment.
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews, capturing lessons learned and best practices, and incorporating findings into future change initiatives.
Requirements

Requirements:

  • Advanced degrees (MBA/Masters) combined with extensive experience in financial services.
  • Excellent negotiating and influencing skills, and effective at gaining traction at all levels in challenging environments. 
  • Expert in core corporate banking processes, products, and relevant regulations.
  • Proven experience delivering large multi-dimensional complex projects and programs within banking/financial services.
  • Track record of implementing digital solutions (cloud, APIs, data and analytics, AI, RPA).
  • Ability to translate complex business strategies into technical roadmaps, aligning with regulatory and compliance needs.
  • Skilled in both Waterfall and Agile methodologies, selecting the right approach per project.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manager senior stakeholders.
  • Highly skilling in linking digital initiatives to revenue growth, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated personal leadership by consistently embodying organisational values through behaviours and performance outcomes.
  • Genuine interest and desire to mentor colleagues, build end-to-end delivery capabilities within the organisation.


Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
