We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Head of International Markets (Asia), COO - GTS.  

The objectives of the GTS COO are to transform the business so that we: 

  • Meet our customers’ evolving needs by enhancing our current Traditional Trade capabilities by growing global market share and growing our Structured Trade business  
  • Make trade easy by streamlining our current Trade Services Operating Model, eliminating inefficient processes and systems, and digitising and automating where possible 
  • Transform GTS and HSBC by operationalising and commercialising across technology and non-technology opportunities and leverage internal and external enablers of innovation.  

We have an opportunity within the regional leadership structure in GTS Operations Asia, to lead operations for a number of markets, namely: Japan, Taiwan, New Zealand, South Korea, Macau. This role will work closely with the Head of GTS in the individual markets in aligning objectives and delivering outcomes. 

This role will report into the co-Head of Asia GTS Operations, and the jobholder will have the following key accountabilities: 

  • Lead and develop a high-performing operations team of professionals across international markets 
  • Lead on processes and delivery services across operations teams, engaging with Centres of Excellence where required 
  • Drive the execution of central and country priorities, acting as the point of integration between global operations strategy and local market requirements 
  • Maintaining and continually developing robust operational controls, governance and risk management across all processes and delivery services 
  • Monitor and manage operational risk events and quality issues, ensuring root cause analysis and preventive actions are in place, leading to continuous improvement 
  • Implementation and optimisation of processes aligned to Global operating procedures 
  • Foster a culture of continuous development and improvement using training resources and, where applicable, professional accreditation 
  • Champion a customer-first and a service excellence mindset with a clear focus on client experience and Net Promoter Score (NPS) outcomes where applicable.

Customers / Stakeholders 

The role will report directly to the co-Head of Asia based in Hong Kong. It is predominantly internally facing although we always encourage understanding of our customers’ behaviours. There may be occasions to meet external stakeholders including advisors and industry bodies. Outside of the candidates’ immediate line manager, key stakeholders will indirectly include members of the GTS COO (e.g. Global Head of GTS Transformation and Global Head of Delivery), as well as members of GTS OpCo, with regular interface with Country Heads of GTS.  

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience

  • Experience and expertise of leading best in class operations, with demonstrated success in supporting different countries 
  • Strong understanding of Asia-Pacific and international markets regulatory and operational environments 
  • Ability to influence and facilitate strong collaboration across business areas and proven track record of great stakeholder management across multiple countries 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the GTS business and broader construct of HSBC’s Global Businesses 
  • Experience in a fast pace and agile environment and drive strategic projects 
  • Experience in solving business problems with data driven insights 

Essential Capabilities 

  • Strong leadership, people management and change delivery capabilities 
  • Prioritises and makes decisions in uncertainty, flexing to keep pace; considers multiple scenarios while retaining utmost strategic clarity 
  • Effectively builds and manages relationships with key stakeholders (incl External), ensuring alignment of operational goals with broader organisational objectives 

Qualifications and Accreditations 

Degree (e.g. BA, MBA etc.) in related field or commensurate practical experience. 

The base location for this role is Hong Kong.
