Risk & Compliance is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Risk & Compliance team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Head of IWPB Risk.
Principal Accountabilities:
Impact on the Business
- Specialist making a significant contribution to the delivery of the IWPB Risk strategy and results making strategic decisions at country level, in line with Regional and Group level IWPB Risk plans
- Driving the delivery of objectives in line with wider strategy, to enable the achievement of business results
- Plan, co-ordinate and lead introduction of new risk management tools to support profitable business growth.
- Develop a strong team culture and ensure recruitment maintains the required skillset and experience.
- Responsible for management of all credit decisions for full lifecycle (Secured and Unsecured) of Acquisition and Account Management strategies
- Ensure credit policies and procedures for all IWPB products are market competitive and compliant with regulatory and Group requirements.
- Responsibility for Wealth Risk Management framework ensuring a robust Wealth Governance structure (including new product approval, TOF and PROC attendance)
Customers / Stakeholders
- Manage the internal and external relationship with Regulators, Group Auditors and Senior IWPB Management for all aspects of Retail Risk management.
- Drive policies, processes and decision making that ensures TCF and FVE outcomes for our customers.
- Provide inputs into business planning and AOP process, using specialist knowledge of IWPB Risk.
- nstilling a proactive and joined up management approach to ensure Retail Risk are working together with all IWPB business units when managing the risk strategies and recommending changes.
- Support new product launches, including up to date RRPs and all legal and regulatory changes, as required, on a timely basis.
- Support approval of new wealth products, investments and procedures within wealth management and retail banking.
- Work with counterparts in Regional and Group IWPB Risk to fully leverage group skills and deploy automated decision wherever possible. This includes development of new Scorecards, Account Management and Collections strategies.
- Escalate any areas of concern or emerging trends in terms of deteriorating credit quality, market / economic trends or reduced profitability across any of the IWPB portfolios to Risk Management forums / committees.
- Maintain close dialogue/cooperation with other Risk stewards, front line, underwriting/collection teams, the business and external stakeholders
Leadership & Teamwork
- Cascades business strategy and goals globally, gaining support and commitment to their delivery;
- Guides and supports management team in change the bank initiatives
- Provide leadership and direction to all IWPB Risk staff via clear communication. Collate staff feedback via surveys (eg GPS, Pulse etc) and implement subsequent action plans to make HSBC Best Place To Work and Best Place To Bank;
- Develop career and succession planning for key roles across IWPB Risk;
- Demonstrate a positive can do attitude at all times to ensure staff are aware of and deliver on their respective strategic plans;
- Encourage internal and external business /economic knowledge gathering as well as encouraging appropriate training / staff development opportunities;
- Ensure local credit strategies are built with a view to future economic / industry trends and not just historical performance information.
- Ensure a forward looking view is provided to IWPB on wealth management in line with changing economic and regulatory framework.
Operational Effectiveness & Control
- Leadership over all regulatory and compliance matters and the management of operational risk
- Drives the implementation of change within IWPB Risk, or part of wider Group initiatives. Ensure any new change impacting the credit life cycle has approprirate controls.
- Identifies and executes well considered opportunities that will result in improvements or adaptations of business practices. At the same time constantly review, challenge and improve process efficiency/status quo
- Supports and embeds best practice management and administrative procedures in own business area.
- Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including the timely implementation of audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
- Observe Group Compliance Policy and maintain awareness of Operational Risk and minimize the likelihood of it occurring.
- Ensure IWPB product based Stress Testing is completed at least once a year and Recession Planning framework is in place across the full credit lifecycle. Ensure methodology is regularly reviewed and complies with regional recommended approach.

Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications
- In depth knowledge of credit risk, particularly in relation to retail banking. Broad understanding of other risk areas that impact IWPB risk profile
- Strong analytical understanding / mindset
- Broad knowledge of sector trends and regulatory environment

- Solid understanding of how the broader macroeconomy may influence the IWPB business
- Understanding of Vietnam state regulations and local bureau knowledge
- Innovative and understands how to use data to make decisions
- Good Understanding of business areas outside of Risk e.g., Collections, Product, Finance, etc.
- Strong leadership skills for constantly changing risk environment
- Experience in working with auditors, regulators and compliance
- Expertise in project management and good interpersonal skills
- Great leader in talent management, communication and influencing
- Fluency in English is required
