We are currently seeking for an industry professional with a proven track record to join our team in the role of Manager, Employee Relations.

This role is responsible for managing employee relations programs, advising workplace issues, and ensuring compliance with employment laws. This role will support the Personal Conduct and Investigations agenda across various entities in the Group, as may be required from time to time. Primarily, the role will support the Malaysia Employee Relations team to deliver a fair, consistent and transparent approach to people in a manner that also helps to drive performance and success for the HSBC Group.

The role holder will be responsible for undertaking complex employee relations investigations and also support all related compliance, governance and reporting tasks. This will include investigations received through any of the channels in place (for e.g. presently HSBC Confidential, HR Direct, executive offices, etc.). As a specialist investigator, the role holder will also be expected to benchmark and implement best practices to support and up-skill capability of other investigators. The role holder will work with teams across all countries and regions on a daily basis. It is expected that the role holder will work collaboratively to ensure that decisions taken are compliant with local legislations and Group guidelines that apply, while solutioning or executing solutions that are risk-mitigated, pragmatic & pro-active.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Undertake HR investigations across multiple geographies.

  • Key contributor to the Asia Pacific (ASP) Employee Relations teams, supporting colleagues as necessary.

  • Providing specialist and strategic ER support to the ASP ER teams.

  • Working closely with the Head of ER on union related matters.

  • Supporting the range of ER activities, including advising on complex matters, managing complex cases (e.g. at appeal), undertaking sensitive investigations (e.g. in respect of senior individuals), supporting strategic projects and programmes (as appropriate).

  • Establishing sound and constructive working relationships within ER and with broader HR function, as well as HR Advisory and HR Consultant teams.

  • Proactively instigating change and continuous improvement in investigation ways of working of ER.

  • Proactively supporting the development of ER / HR Advisory colleagues.

  • Liaising with internal and external legal on ER related matters.

  • The role holder will therefore need to be able to successfully navigate and manage organisational complexity.

  • The role offers great exposure to senior HR and business stakeholders. The role holder will be involved in complex but interesting ER activity. The successful candidate will be working as part of a dynamic ER team

Requirements
  • Professional qualification in HR or employment law

  • At least 5 years’ experience in Employee Relations / HR Business Partner / Legal Consultancy, with demonstrated understanding of employee relations / case management / investigations.

  • Knowledge or experience of financial services preferably in a Regional or global role will be an advantage.

  • Corporate experience and regulatory / government experience an advantage, but not essential

  • Strong understanding of Employee Relations Principles for handling employee grievance / conduct / whistleblowing issues, business transformation, regulatory hearing / litigation management.

  • Ability to identify, analyse / evaluate and resolve ER issues and provide consultation to management. Lateral thinking/problem solving skills.

  • Agile towards ER issues and ability to blend within HR Team and stakeholders

  • Strong written and communication skills with experience of management presentation, report writing, drafting guidance materials/policies etc.

  • Strong ability to prioritise and manage changing deadlines

  • Strong listening, negotiation, and analytical skills necessary for coaching business representatives, managers & employees.

  • Strict adherence to the requirements of confidentiality, discretion and integrity. Demonstrates positive and collaborative values and behaviours reflected across all people delivery touch points.
