Department Profile:

Securities Services provides Direct Custody and Clearing (DCC) services covering 38 markets globally, and Global Custody (GC) services (covering 96 markets) located in Hong Kong and London.

SS Japan has been providing Direct Custody and Clearing services in Japan to foreign clients since 1980. DCC involves the non discretionary ownership of securities by the party known as the 'custodian'. The custodian services currently provided by SS Japan include the provision of safekeeping of assets, the administration of investment portfolios, the settlement of transactions, the collection of entitlements, the maintenance of portfolio records, and the reporting of portfolio activities.  SS Japan also launched Third Party Clearing product in 2012 and offers securities clearing services for local exchange member firms.

Role Purpose:

  • To provide, continuously challenge and develop the highest level of customer service to SS clients
  • To develop and deliver relevant products and services, in order to achieve maximum profit contribution to the Bank and high service standards
  • To assist Head of Client Service in developing business opportunities and gathering market intelligence

Principal Accountabilities:

  • By understanding clients' needs, respond promptly to queries/questionnaires with high quality information in an effective communication style
  • Keep abreast of both operational and market developments
  • Provide recommendations and suggestions to develop better ways for adding value to clients and the Bank
  • Develop and maintain close relationships with key client contacts
  • Swiftly develop relationship with new clients by providing hand-in support prior to and post transition
  • Manage due diligent visits from existing and prospective clients professionally


Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

  • Experience in custody business (or custody related business)
  • Experience in client service role
  • Knowledge in tax system and regulations related to securities investment (in Japan)
  • Knowledge in operational risk, customer due diligence etc.
  • Ability to communicate both in English and Japanese 
  • Ability to solve problems
Ability to negotiate with clients and internal parties
