Role purpose
- The role holder supports in managing and assisting in the credit application preparation for margin trading accounts in partnership with our Credit Advisors and Specialists. The role includes monitoring of risk on margin portfolio and advising dealers, CRA and FO staff on margins, risk, stress test results, and appropriate remediation measures. The position is also responsible for Supporting Credit Advisers in ad-hoc portfolio deep-dives, and in client derivative trading activity. The role holder must be able to work through change in a safe and structured way to drive a risk management culture.
What you’ll do:
Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities (e.g., for Business, Customers and Stakeholders; internal control environment, etc.)
- Draft credit applications and conduct periodic reviews in accordance with the policy requirements for UHNW clients for both HK and SG booking centres.
- Perform detailed collateral analysis on the AUMs held against the facilities (Lombard/Mortgage/Insurance) extended to the clients.
- Table proposals to credit risk (and challenge, if required) with supporting quantitative analysis for model policy exceptions.
- Monitor the performance of the portfolio clients and actively work to maintain/improve the credit portfolio quality and prevent loss.
- Produce analytics for consumption of Credit Advisory and for broader Private Banking risk management, which includes performing ad-hoc stress test and evaluation of at-risk accounts.
- Drive and steer projects related to the reporting infrastructure and advise on data quality, mapping, assumption, computation, system testing and propose refinement/enhancement where appropriate.
- Practice customer centric model for the GPB&W business, ensuring fair client outcomes, both personally and as an organization
- Display and adopt behaviors that form part of the HSBC values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns, and taking required actions.
- Track the resolution of subsequent risk management actions as appropriate.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, and procedures that apply to GPB&W
- Adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures, including issues raised by external regulators.

What you will need to succeed in the role:
- University degree in a relevant business discipline (e.g. MBA, Economics or a related field), ideally with a minimum of eight years of working experience. (M)
- Understanding of lending business and credit underwriting for risk assessment from a bank’s perspective. (M)
- Demonstrate strong credit analysis ability and knowledge of lending products and Private Banking business. (E)
- Good sense of judgment along with strong planning, organization, project and time management skills, as well as a customer-centric mindset and strong attention to detail. (E)
- Motivated with agility and creativity; able to work independently and efficiently, and manage multiple items simultaneously under tight timeframes. (E)
- Strong quantitative skills, that can be translated to into MS Excel and Powerpoint. (M)
- Previous experience of financial data software such as Bloomberg. (D)
- Good interpersonal skills and being able to collaborated effectively with internal stakeholders. (D)
- Excellent communication and writing skills; proficiency in English is required. (M)
- Prior job experience of North Asia and South-East Asian financial markets. (D)
Functional Knowledge
- A desire to develop and improve processes, as well as a demonstrable track record of driving results while maintaining high global standards.
- Well organized and ability to prioritize a multitude of tasks across a variety of business stakeholders.
- Proficiency with Bloomberg, Excel and PowerPoint and other system applications strongly preferred.
- Good understanding of market risk concepts and financial products (multiple asset classes) including financial derivatives and structured products
- Previous private banking/Lombard risk experience is beneficial.
- Enjoys working with large datasets.
- Dashboarding experience in Qlik or Tableau is advantageous.
Others
- Excellent oral and written skills of English is a pre-requisite with other languages an additional advantage.
