MSS Operations NFR (Non Financial Risk) team is an internal risk and control management function primarily responsible for ensuring that risks in Markets Operations are being managed within risk appetite. It is a global, and cross asset-class, function that works closely with Global and Line Operations management in ensuring that our key controls are adequate in mitigating our material risks. The function is broadly responsible for evaluating risks, monitoring, reviewing, and testing both the design and operation of key controls, driving consistency of the internal control framework across locations where there is a Markets and Securities Services (MSS) presence, ensuring adherence to risk & control policies, reinforcing control culture and directing control awareness activities, and ensuring that Operations management are accountable for their risks and taking action on a timely basis to remediate.

The Opportunity:

  • The AVP, Non-Financial Risk will be responsible and accountable for the execution of the non-financial risk and control function across Global Debt Markets at the GSCs.
  • The role holder will also contribute to the effective execution of global and regional governance across Global Debt Markets.
  • The role holder will proactively identify key operating risk and control deficiencies and recommend remedial actions to mitigate or eliminate those risks to ultimately improve the overall control environment.
  • The responsible person is expected to identify and articulate emerging risks and trends across Global Debt Markets, resulting in proactive and timely responses.
  • Partnering closely with Risk and Control owners, the role holder will drive the delivery of the MSS Operations global strategy.

What you’ll do:

  • The role holder will proactively engage with multiple stakeholders ranging from Front Office, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Audit and NFR colleagues across the globe to develop a forward looking perspective and will help support Control owners across various risk and controls governance forums.
  • The role holder will be responsible to perform thematic reviews and targeted risk reduction initiatives triggered by management risk appetite, incidents or internal and external auditors.
  • The role holder will be accountable for the evaluation of operational incidents and root cause analysis to formulate appropriate remedial action and process design.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Good working knowledge of functional area and varying degrees of appreciation for risk management strategies, capabilities, and governance.
  • Strong knowledge of the external environment – regulatory, political, competitors, innovation etc.
  • Proven experience of positive, challenging interactions with Senior Management.
  • Proven ability in working across multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural diverse work environments.
  • Strong analytical background.
  • Proven ability in successfully identifying, designing and implementing large-scale, complex global / regional change programmes.
  • Proven ability to articulate complex issues concisely and in clear language.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels.
  • Strong team leadership skills.
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Positive ‘can do’ attitude, high level of motivation to meet challenging deadlines and targets.
  • Well-developed planning, time management and resource management skills.
  • Tenacious in approach with the ability to challenge the norm / present viable alternative approaches.
  • High level of drive and motivation to ensure successful delivery of complex transformational initiatives
  • Outstanding organizational and planning skills in order to cope with multiple large-scale responsibilities.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Deep understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviors, processes and objectives.
  • Strong intimate knowledge of HSBC’s various Global business’s and functions.
  • Experience in MSS as a business, with product knowledge in Global Debt Markets being an advantage.
