  • A Technical Guidance team has been set up to develop strategic solutions, correction of data for downstream calculations, reports and conduct product review to help achieve these objectives at an organizational level.
  • The primary purpose of the technical guidance team is to understand the end requirements, particularly where these are driven by regulator or accounting body requirements, to ensure that the data is in line with the required definitions, to understand differences which may require more than one similar data element to be sourced and to define appropriate data controls and validation.

The Opportunity:

  • The role holder as an Analyst is accountable to the Financial Control Technical Guidance Lead and is responsible for supporting the end-to-end process and governance around the decision making for data definitions, the alignment of data supporting different reporting, provide expert advice on validations and controls, as well as providing SME input into training for teams in the new operating model.
  • The role is based in Finance and would require the role holder to work effectively across multiple initiatives simultaneously to contribute to successful delivery of Transformation programmes. The role holder will engage a wide spectrum of senior stakeholders within and outside Finance across the bank.

What you’ll do:

  • Participate in the design of the technical support operating model to be applied in the future state.
  • Identify and support evaluation of emerging technologies to drive data/process improvements.
  • Interpretation of business requirements from a SME perspective. Analyse problems and propose solutions beyond initial objectives or requirements.
  • Assist in conducting process/product reviews. To identify the root cause of issues/ challenges faced by the business and associated stakeholders.
  • Provide support in preparation of discussion papers, to be presented to senior stakeholders.
  • Define the skill sets required in the new operating model and how to gain and build/train such skills to ensure the function can implement and drive the strategy forward.
  • Ensure appropriate communication across Finance, as well as other functions, such as Risk and the businesses who own much of the data being sourced and validated.
  • Work with dynamic plans in a fast-moving environment, continually assessing priorities and progress and adjusting course where necessary, being sure to maintain stakeholder buy-in
  • Closely work with Project manager to progress project to plan, co-ordinate and prioritize activities/resources, facilitate sign offs on each milestone delivery and escalate risks/issues in a timely manner for consideration.

  • Closely work with work-stream leads and project resources – during planning, preparation, and execution.
  • Develop materials to communicate information to or support discussions with different audiences.
  • Understand the data model, flow and end-to-end solution and processes.
  • Participate in the design and build of various components of future operating model.
  • Be a trusted advisor and partner to the Financial Control team related to technical reporting requirements.

Customers/Stakeholders

  • Collaborate across key stakeholders including Finance Operations, Risk, Chief data officer team, Financial Controller team and Global Finance Change.
  • Understand stakeholders' objectives, direction, priorities, and challenges, managing and addressing concerns and objections.
  • Escalate risks and issues in a timely manner to various programme governance forums for consideration.
  • Support Finance Transformation Programme Delivery teams regarding change delivery matters.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Promote a culture of continuous innovation, challenge the business on approach and apply knowledge of relevant latest developments.
  • Collaboration across Finance and with other Functions/Global Businesses involved in the programme.
  • Act as a role model for the Bank’s Values and Behaviors and cultivate an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand.

  • Contribute to implementation of effective and efficient processes and controls.
  • Participate in execution of operational risk assessment of new processes.
  • To continually reassess the design decisions and inherent operational risks.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Experienced Finance Professional with extensive experience in reporting and technical roles that cover a range of regulatory and financial reporting. Experience within technical roles or data officer team will be an added advantage.
  • Proven track record in playing a key role in delivering a complex change project in the Financial and Regulatory reporting space.
  • Strong cross-Finance knowledge and experience, able to confidently speak on behalf of Finance.
  • Committed to continuous improvement, self-motivated, confident, creative, and capable of working effectively autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • Understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviors, processes, and objectives.
  • Agile mindset and/ or experience working in an Agile team/organisation. 
  • Ability to write plain-English papers, briefings and slides on complex topics.
