Role purpose

The role is key to discharge risk steward responsibilities to execute, follow up and manage all aspects of Regulatory Compliance including provide advice and challenge, product governance process, supporting the RC Subdirector of the business.  

The role requires partnership with the teams of Banking, International Wealth and Premier Banking (IWPB) and Fiduciary teams. The role  follows up on various work streams and initiatives underway which fall under the umbrella of Regulatory Compliance Risk providing advice related to products and services and ensure that the Regulatory Compliance function is perfromed adequately to address the risks associated with businesses in Mexico.

Assist the senior management of MX Wholesale, the leadership of the Regulatory Compliance function, and other colleagues on all material regulatory compliance related matters.

Main activities

  • Providing subject matter expertise, advice, guidance, and effective challenge to the Risk and Control Owners
  • Supporting the setting of Risk Appetite and overseeing risk appetite through monitoring and reporting.
  • Monitoring compliance with a comprehensive set of clear and concise policies that outline the key principles and minimum requirements applicable to the management of Regulatory Compliance risks.
  • Developing and defining the RTCL including minimum control standards, with input from Risk, Control and Business Service Owners, specifying key risks and key controls and providing guidance on control monitoring expectations.
  • Providing robust oversight throughout the RCA process including Scoping / Configuration, Read Across and Trigger event management, challenging where appropriate.
  • Challenging Risk and Control Owners on risk and control management, control effectiveness and the management of issues, actions and events.
  • Reporting on risk and control profile, including impacts of external environment changes, emerging risks and changes to the business strategy.
  • Working with the business to understand the impact on the risk profile of emerging risks, change programmes and new or changed products or services.
  • Providing oversight for the development of new, changes to existing or the withdrawal of Products.
  • Overseeing, escalating and providing guidance on the identification of conduct impacts across Regulatory Compliance risks and activities owned by the first line, including where control weaknesses and risk events impact the delivery of good outcomes.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, advice and effective challenge to Business Service Owners and Process Owners on the association of risks and controls to critical / material business services, including supporting processes.
  • Providing support, when engaged by appropriate colleagues within Recovery and Resolution Planning, for any required activity to meet the HSBC’s responsibilities documented in the Resolvability Assessment Framework.
  • Cultivate a culture of compliance by working proactively, as well as with other compliance professionals to ensure that best practices are followed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and policies.
  • Supports the team leader to improve and maintain the day-to-day processes of the area.
  • Ensure effective contributions on regulatory compliance in the governance and reporting processes that are carried out.
  • Ensure the appropriate timely and relevant risk information is provided to management and governance forums.
Requirements
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience interacting with high-level executives.
  • Ability to prioritize and achieve change in challenging environments.
  • Knowledge of regulations related to Mexico regulatory landscape.
  • Knowledge and understanding of HSBC's Regulatory Compliance Policies.
  • Confidence to lead and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide training
