The Securities Masterfile team (SMF) is responsible to create, maintain, (update, refresh, re-open, enrich, block/unblock, close) and control all type of financial instruments / assets into the core System as well as other static data related to assets (currencies, markets, prices, rates, countries, calendar etc). This service is provided globally to the Global Private Banking business.

Main data vendors are SIX Telekurs, Bloomberg, Reuters and FundSettle/Clearstream.

Being a part of the team means exposure to different types of asset classes such as Hedge Funds, Private Equity Funds, Mutual Funds, Equities, Bonds, Forex, Money Market, and Derivatives. Ensuring that all client and bank trades are settled on time and without issues will be dependent on data accuracy making this a critical role.


What you’ll do:

  • Creation of any instrument not yet opened in the core platform.
  • Creation of assets ensuring the request is received and processed in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Modification and maintenance fields on asset objects into the core platform.
  • Requests may be received from Product Specialists team, Traders, Trading support, Tax and Operations.
  • Management of market data feeds both end of day as well as real time data from third party vendors,
  • as well as update internal data tasks to support both external and internal data on HSBC systems
  • Ensuring that the input, amendment and maintenance of pricing activities are accurately processed and in
  • a timely manner.
  • The team are responsible to keep a high-level standard of data quality, especially on critical data elements.
  • The team uses dedicated system reports to cross check information, verify modification, ensure classes are set
  • and correct.
  • To prevent unauthorised or unwanted trades to happen, the SMF team is responsible for the Blocking &
  • Unblocking of assets. Several lists are received daily or ad-hoc and integrated into our ISIN checker tool.
  • All new asset requested to be opened are screened against this ISIN checker list. When an asset is blocked
  • but there is a pending trade, the SMF team request the relevant FCC or RC team if the block can be lifted temporarily.
  • The team maintain daily all assets blocked in Avaloq vs the ISIN checker lists
  • All vendor issues are escalated in a timely manner and tracked through to resolution. Respond accurately and efficiently to all requests from external counterparties or internal services of the bank.
  • Ensure all tasks are carried out in compliance with internal and external rules, regulations and best practices.
  • Perform daily controls and KPI monitoring in accordance with checklists
  • Respond accurately and efficiently to all requests from external counterparties or internal services of the bank.
  • Training new employees on the procedures based on the Desk Instruction Manual.

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Private Banking/Investment Banking Operational experience
  • Previous experience with Masterfile/Data Reference Data
  • Strong knowledge on all asset types (Equities/Fixed Income/Funds/Derivatives/FX)
  • Strong analytical and investigation skills
  • Good technical skills (office tools)
  • Good communication skills, team player and client oriented.
  • Flexible approach to change
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks accordingly.
  • Commitment to providing a first-class service, with ability to work effectively and accurately to deadlines without close supervision


What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Knowledge on the Core Private Banking System (Avaloq) a plus.
