We are hiring a Service Reliability Engineer to join the Digital Business Automation (DigiBA) team in CTO Infrastructure. Our platform provides mission-critical services including Control-M, IBM Sterling File Gateway, and Connect:Direct — supporting thousands of batch and file movement operations daily across HSBC’s global estate.
This position is for a SRE Lead Engineer within the Engineering team. Its primary objective is to take ownership of the reliability, scalability, and performance of our systems by driving initiatives that continually improve mission critical IT Services. Working with Architecture, Product Owners, Product Engineering and Operations teams you’ll lead initiatives to improve observability, automate operations, and ensure uptime across our services.
What you’ll do
- Working with Product Owners define and implement SLOs/SLIs/SLAs to ensure system reliability and customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with product engineering teams to embed reliability best practices into their software engineering lifecycle.
- Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies that improve reliability and operational efficiency.
- Develop automation for deployment, monitoring, incident response, and capacity management.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement within Engineering
- Provide leadership and mentorship to embed SRE into the department by setting technical direction, best practices and operational standards.
- Monitor and improve system performance, optimizing for cost, latency, and resilience.
- Work with architecture to assure highly available, secure, and compliant applications are built by design.
What you need to have to succeed in this role
- 7+ years of experience in SRE, DevOps, or infrastructure engineering roles with 2+ years in a technical lead capacity.
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipelines, observability stacks (AppDynamics, Grafana, Splunk, OpenTelemetry), and monitoring systems.
- Strong automation and scripting skills (Python, Go, Bash, etc.).
- Proven experience maintaining highly available, low-latency systems in a regulated industry (preferably banking, fintech, or insurance).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fluency in written and spoken English and be comfortable working in a multi-cultured/global environment.
- Working experience in Agile methodologies.
- Ability to work independently and within a diverse team environment.
