We are currently seeking an experienced individual to join our team as Head of Business Performance and Commercial Execution

Role purpose

Reporting to the Head of CMB Hong Kong (AMH), this is a key leadership position providing dedicated, forward thinking and strategic support. This includes leading or owning activities, directly supporting Head of CMB Hong Kong with BAU and non-BAU activities, commercial execution of CMB strategy and making decision-making more effective. The role will be instrumental in driving and coordinating business activities, directly supporting business heads with a broad range of short and long term projects, alongside cyclical work pieces such as annual financial resources planning and performance cycle preparation. 

This job is not client facing and does not have any portfolios, however the role is key to ensuring the strategy, control and framework is in place to ensure we Treat Customers Fairly. 

Role holders will carry out activities that will indicatively include the following (but not limited to): 

  • Planning, managing and coordinating CMB Exco as well as other senior level discussions, offsites, workshops
  • Delivering on business performance reporting
  • Assisting CMB Exco in prioritising strategic business initiatives, decision-making and implementation of key decisions
  • Leading the creation and agreement HoCMB and CMB Exco members’ scorecards, identifying objectives and key results indicators to measure and improve business performance
  • Coordinate CMB activities in relation to cross line of business collaboration
  • Oversee strategic business initiatives across functions and lead special projects
  • Review, design, and execute improvements to organisational structure (when relevant). Identifying areas of improvement across the organisation with recommendations
  • Working closely with Communications on the creation and execution of internal and external communications activities and supporting HoCMB on media and other engagements
  • Deputise for HoCMB on meetings/topics as required 

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

The role holder will:

  • Manage the general day-to-day requirements of Head of CMB, including people strategy and resourcing, financial cost control and planning, governance, strategy and global & regional construct/structure and organisational design
  • Develop/manage the business governance, control structures and performance scorecards (KPIs) to ensure project milestones, budgets, resources and employee engagement aspirations are met, implementing mitigating actions as appropriate
  • Lead the preparation and coordination of Business Reviews with key areas across CMB, working closely with subject matter experts to form the content and areas of discussion. Ensure these discussions and relevant follow up actions are aligned with and support CMB's strategic priorities. Drive accountability and visibility over business performance, addressing areas of concern such as gaps vs commitments / targets
  • Oversee and manage internal governance and programme frameworks (committees/meetings, actions and submissions)
  • Ensure strong collaboration with CIB and Group teams to mobilise initiatives requiring cross-functional inputs
  • Engage with functional stakeholders (e.g. Human Resources, Information Technology, Finance), Product Partners and the other Global Businesses to ensure progression against plans
  • Support/implement the continuing development or transformation of the business’s operating model to ensure the business operates increasingly effectively and efficiently and is able to deliver HSBC's strategic goals
  • Investigating and remediating issues as they arise which could have an adverse effect on the business
  • Embed CMB’s vision and values, to inspire and engage people to create an accountable, inclusive, high performing and execution-centric culture

  • Outstanding leadership, interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels
  • Exceptional relationship management, resilience and influencing skills with experience in team building and managing a wide range of projects, across multiple workstream teams and stakeholders of different levels, cultures, and across Global, Regional and Country operating models
  • Strong navigator and promoter of challenging the status quo, seeking to improve ways of working and having a forward-thinking mind-set, in line with the Group’s values and strategy 
  • Role modelling a positive work culture based on respect for people, integrity of actions, creativity and collaboration leading to increased productivity
  • Proven ability in developing and managing high performing teams with clear vision; focused on orchestrating the strategic change agenda and driving tangible customer outcomes
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, unfamiliarity and able to bring clarify to requirements

Functional Knowledge 

  • Thorough understanding of HSBC Group structures, values, behaviours, processes and objectives 
  • Well established understanding of the financial services landscape and competitor developments 
  • Demonstrated Commercial Banking business knowledge with good understanding of Hong Kong market
  • Outstanding relationship management, interpersonal, communication skills; the ability to negotiate and influence across networks of matrixed stakeholders 
  • Experience of operating in an environment of constantly changing priorities, challenging bureaucracy, and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group 
  • Ability to drive change forward with pace, whilst setting and managing realistic expectations, often requiring critical upfront challenge 
  • Knowledge and experience of being flexible and adaptable in an environment of constantly changing priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group
