About the Role

Embedded Finance is a key strategic priority for HSBC GTS, targeting to deliver billions in financing balance and over $100 million in revenue. By partnering with leading marketplaces and platforms, we aim to transform how financing integrates seamlessly into digital ecosystems. Collaboration with a major platform is being progressed to launch this initiative, while the foundations are being built to scale it as a cornerstone of the GTS business for future.

We are seeking an experienced, visionary and results-driven Head of Technology and Data Platform for Embedded Finance Technology. The role will be responsible for the overall technological and data strategy of the Embedded Finance business. He/she will work closely with technology delivery team to ensure the technology infrastructure, platforms, and architecture design align with the business goals in future, while also ensuring short-term objectives are catered. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and hands-on leader who can navigate complex priorities and continuously building differentiated core strength for the business.

Responsibilities:  

•    Strategic Leadership
o    Develop and execute the Embedded Finance business’s technology and data vision, strategy and roadmap in alignment with business objectives. 
o    Drive the design of technology and data architecture, and continuously review priorities based on business and customer needs. 
o    Own delivery of data and technology outcomes with an optimal approach among building, partnering and buying capabilities 
o    Make conscious decisions on technology trade-offs through data and insight from the market and operational experience. 
o    Identify emerging technologies, tools, and trends in FinTech to future-proof the strategic capability of the business. 
o    Champion experimentations for two-way door design decisions.

•    Platform Development 
o    Oversee the design, development and deployment of scalable, secure and efficient technology stack to support Embedded Finance vision. 
o    Drive long-term innovation in platform features and architecture design, including technology and data architecture. 
o    Drive the delivery of technology capabilities on time and within budget.
o    Ensure platform compliance, reliability and resilience.

•    Stakeholder Communication 
o    Report key technology metrics and progress to management  
o    Represent the Embedded Finance business in technical discussions with partners, vendors, and customers. 
o    Act as a thought leader in fintech to upskill team within the business and promote culture of new technology experimentation 

Requirements

Requirements:  

•    Proven experience as a CTO or chief data officer, VP of engineering, or similar leadership role in a fintech or technology-driven business environment 
•    Strong background in scalable architecture, cloud computing (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure, AliCloud), and modern development stacks. 
•    Expertise in fintech and partnership domain such as digital lending, payment, blockchain, APIs and financial compliance. 
•    Deep understanding of security and regulatory constraints in financial industry.
•    Experience with data analytics and AI/ML model implementation. Experience of applying these technologies to FinTech and trade finance will be highly relevant. 
•    Prior experience working with vendors, partners and managing technical due diligence. 
•    Ability to thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment. 
•    Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders 
•    Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities. 
•    Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, data, engineering, or a related field.  

Reporting / Size of the Team:  
•    The technology team will expand to 50-60 people by the end of 2026 as we look to insource the IP from a third party vendor and build out internal capabilities to continue to support and expand embedded finance capability
•    The candidate will report to CIO, GTS and CIB Asia and Middle East and will be part of the leadership team.
