  • Regulatory Compliance (RC) Risk Stewardship team in the CoE supports RC Risk Stewards across Group, Regions and Global Lines of Businesses (GLoBs) with Governance and Oversight of their Risk Stewardship responsibilities. 
  • Team also supports Group Capability within the Regulatory Compliance function to set standards and infrastructure to support stewardship of RC risks for the Group.
  • This is a forward-looking role to support the Reporting and Governance requirements along with design and build of the new business hierarchy within the HSBC Regulatory Compliance function.

The Opportunity:

  • Identification and management of RC risks (internal and external), analysis of data from across the Three Lines of Defences (LoDs).
  • Produce periodic reports / MIs and submit to line manager (LM) / Onshore partners and assist in risk analysis and mitigation.
  • The role will involve working with stakeholders across the HSBC Group including the RC senior leadership team, risk stewards across all Regions and GLoBs, Data & Analytics Office (DAO), Assurance and Group Internal Audit (GIA) etc.
  • Assists with identification, tracking and communication of exceptions. Escalate any significant data quality and process issues to the LM and onshore management.
  • The successful applicant will need to have excellent data analysis, reporting, communication skills, and an inquisitive and investigative mind-set.

What you’ll do:

  • Key activities and decision-making areas
  • Producing Risk Reports, Governance Packs, MIs in coordination with RC risk stewards.
  • Performing deep dive reviews and thematic analysis of Risk, Controls, Issues, Events and Actions.
  • Provide understanding of the potential impact and associated consequences of new or emerging risks.
  • To proactively identify key emerging risks across all RC categories and interface appropriately with risk stewards and senior management.
  • Implementation of tracking and oversight protocols to ensure stewardship recommendations are being shared on time and actioned where required.
  • Proactively work with the businesses and stakeholders to develop policies and procedures as required.
  • Provide innovative and effective solutions to problem statements based on SME knowledge that assist the risk stewards.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Identification and management of RC risks. In-depth understanding of risk management framework and Risk Stewardship Responsibilities. Performance of stewardship tasks as per standards and provide risk recommendations.
  • Deliver products that support the Risk Stewardship model and promote an active risk management culture within RC function.
  • Identify re-engineering, process automation opportunities through use of AI/ML etc. to improve efficiency, in turn reducing lead time, improve consistency / quality / cost saves.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Effective collaboration with the Group RC risk stewards, CoE leaders, senior RC leadership teams across all regions and GBLs to support stewardship tasks.
  • Consolidation and analysis of risk information to identify RC risk insights for stakeholders to action.
  • Escalate key stakeholder issues in an effective way to ensure timely resolution.
  • Delivery of products that support the Risk Stewardship model and promote a proactive risk management culture within RC.

Teamwork 

  • Constructive feedback of team members while collaborating with them in process of achieving stewardship objectives.
  • Assist in creating & maintaining an environment within the team which fosters free sharing of knowledge & ideas developing soft skills and technical competency for self.
  • Actively participating in team engagement, CoE, GSC and centre wide initiatives / activities.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Skills, Abilities and Experience required:
  • Risk Frameworks – Excellent knowledge and understanding of: Risk Management Framework and Non-Financial Risk Management Framework. An understanding of the concepts supporting a risk management framework, the lines of defences and how they interact and how a risk profile is established, with key risks identified and appropriate controls mapped. Knowledge of how a risk profile can be challenged and remediation activities tracked.
  • Regulatory Compliance Risks – Knowledge of the wider regulatory environment and some idea of the likely regulatory risks and upcoming changes that are mostly likely to impact global banking and which areas of our business are likely to be most affected. Knowledge and understanding of the global regulatory environment and key compliance risk trends as well as practitioner-level knowledge of regulatory obligations in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Business Processes – Candidates should have an overall understanding of the different types business of HSBC and the types of products offered by each and how these businesses are supported by middle and back offices.
  • Stakeholder Engagement – Candidates must feel confident engaging with onshore stakeholders directly across all LoDs. Candidates must be able to build effective working relationships and provide robust challenge and feedback where necessary without compromising those relationships.
  • Report Writing & Drafting skills – Candidates must be able to summarise large amounts of complex data and commentary into clear and comprehensive summary / reports that can be readily understood by a senior audience. Candidates must be able to meet challenging deadlines to produce such reports. Must have ability to draft recommendations in clear, concise and professional manner to convey the stewardship analysis output to senior stakeholders. 
  • Analytical Skills – The candidates must be able to understand source data, compare information from across the three lines of defences and reach a conclusion, identifying anomalies and where further input required. This includes both strong verbal and numerical analysis, as successful applicants will have to use numerical comparison and close reading of rationales to reach suitable conclusions.
  • Project management skills – A good understanding of project management techniques and experience in project delivery would be desirable, Successful delivery within a change / project environment.
  • As a highly motivated and dynamic self-starter, working collaboratively within teams, delivering on time with a strong attention to detail, with excellent communication,
  • High level of professional and personal integrity with strong inter-personal skills and excellent communication, dealing with senior executives.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, (MS Word, MS Excel and MS Power Point).
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills, ability to think laterally.
  • Good quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Providing input into the design of and implementing enhancements to HSBC Risk Management framework.
  • Working with MI and Project teams to oversee the design and implementation of a new technical solution to ensure data is available via a user-friendly front-end reporting tool.
