This role will be in the Risk Strategy and Governance team and is involved in wide range of activities including risk analytics and Governance, ensuring timely submission of updates for governance forums and report automation projects. 
    The role requires the incumbent to support Regional team to execute various analytical and automation projects spanning across credit life cycle, reporting into the Lead for Business Consulting - HBAP Credit Risk Management in GAC. The responsibilities include delivering deep-dive / trend analysis, portfolio monitoring, policy review, handling report automation projects etc.

The Opportunity:

  • Assist in the control and monitoring process to provide early warnings on risks and performance issues.
  • Support the Policy and Risk Governance Team to prepare reports and materials for relevant Governance forums.
  • Monitoring and reporting utilization of exposure limits & exception lending across countries and different product lines.
  • Assist with the Regional oversight of audits, regulatory requirements and governance processes in relation to Retail Credit.  
  • Manage the review and reporting of thematic risks and issues across Asia Pacific. Coordinate across businesses, functions, and countries to ensure the key risks and actions are managed in a timely and quality manner.
  • Coordinate with Regional Credit Officers for country updates to be presented in governance forums.
  • Support extraction and automation of Management Information Systems and reports.
  • Perform ad-hoc/ deep dive analysis to identify, understand and report emerging risks and issues across Asia Pacific markets and facilitate the in-country Risk teams in the timely management of these risks.
  • Projects related to Australia WPB portfolio will be impacted. Analytical and oversight activities related to portfolio performance tracking, risk strategy and credit policy review, Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) Monitoring, new product launches/amendments, updates to HBAU WPB
  • Credit Risk Forum (CRF) and Credit Quality submissions will be hampered.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with key stakeholders, providing risk / reward related analytics and specialist advice to support the management of the portfolio
  • Developing a robust reporting and MI suite across key WPB Risk oversight meetings
  • Identifying areas and opportunities within the existing credit risk strategy and policy framework to enhance portfolio performance, customer experience and profitability.
  • Identify emerging risks, problem areas and opportunities within the WPB credit portfolios ensuring we are proactively managing the portfolio under changing economic circumstances
  • Full compliance with all HSBC procedural guides and external regulatory requirements"
  • The position is critical for delivery for key projects, initiatives and reviews for Australia WPB portfolio. A backfill is much required else it will lead to risk of non-delivery of critical analytics and oversight related work for WPB portfolios.

Requirements

  • Experience in Banking industry, preferably in Risk Management unit under Financial Services and Credit Risk related discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills, proficient in data analysis using statistical or programming tools – SAS, Access, Visual Basics and Microsoft Excel. 
  • Experience in risk management reporting and management committee coordination.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills in English.
  • Be able to work independently on extracting, summarizing and presenting data and insights.
  • Demonstrate a high degree of organization skills and resourcefulness.
  • Capability to coordinate and manage on-shore stakeholders.
    Responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate with onshore partners to address needs for analytical solutions to address underlying Risk.
  • Conceptualize and build analytical solutions using statistical techniques (if required) to provide insights on portfolio performance and other risk metrics for different markets.  
  • Ensuring appropriate documentation of the projects (as and when required).
  • Ability to do a portfolio deep dive analysis to identify risks and potential opportunities for growth. The incumbent would be expected to effectively explain the trends, adding meaningful insights on the back of relevant business knowledge.
  • This role requires the incumbent to plan and execute the assigned projects within agreed timelines and with accuracy and quality.

  • Risk teams with deep dive analysis to ensure that the key risks and actions are managed in a timely and appropriate manner.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering / mathematics / statistics / economics or equivalent streams.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in analytics preferably in Credit Risk Management, Loss Forecasting / Financial Planning, Portfolio Management etc. 
  • Experience of delivering analytical solutions to solve business problems of moderate complexity.
  • Strong analytical thought process and ability to communicate ideas is required; should be able to grasp new analytical/statistical concepts/tools quickly.
  • Good organizational, analytical, problem-solving and verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in analytical tools like SAS, SQL, Visual Basics and MS Excel.
  • Prior Automation experience will be preferred.
  • Prior experience in managing risk activities in retail lending is essential.
  • Experience of working on basic statistical techniques like segmentation, regression, testing would be beneficial.
