Managing a portfolio of special assets within the corporate banking book in HBTR covering both delinquent assets as well as the ones requiring special care leading to corporate recoveries and/or rehabilitation. This function is responsible for managing the credit strategy (and in the case of Full Responsibility cases the operations) of a portfolio totaling around 50 cases (c.20 of which are active) and with gross exposure of c.USD200m.

 The role holder will be accountable for hands-on delivery of various activities including –

1.        Managing the SCU Turkey team (indirect reports), including:

a.        Managing of SCU HATS

b.        Management of workflow

c.        Ensuring the team working efficiency and effectively, implementing improvements as and when identified

d.        Upskilling the team’s capabilities and ensuring continuous quality improvement

2.        Managing of non-client work internally in line with SCU Global targets

3.        Act as SCU MENAT subject matter expert with regards to forbearance, restructuring, IFRS9 provisions and SCU operations and assist with queries/projects from internal and external stakeholders.

4.        Ensuring accurate processing of provision/recovery transaction/maintenances for all SCU customers. This is a critical responsibility of the job holder and needs to be aware of the importance of these entries as the P&L of the Bank is affected based on these transactions.

5.        Managing internal and external MIs and reports, local regulatory reports as well.

6.        Addressing any process and operational issues, whether raised through MSIIs, audit findings or general.

7.        Taking responsibility of consistent execution of controls for effective risk management from a legal, compliance, operational and reputational perspective. This includes ensuring regulatory requirements are satisfied in relation to SCU customers.

8.        Delivering any gap analysis for any regulatory updates as well as identifying and implementing any process changes required. 

9.        Managing systems access for the team, implementation of any system amendments and providing support for the team

10.     Supporting Global/Regional SCU with any ad-hoc project work, including SCU system developments, streamlining and UAT testing.

11.     Lead and manage high levels of constructive engagement with all relevant stakeholders i.e. Business Services, Credit Operations, Compliance, Legal, BRCM, Finance, SFR, FCC, Sanctions, GTRF.

12.     Act as the Department Records Coordinator and ensure that SCU records are maintained in an orderly manner and in line with HSBC policy.

13.     Ensuring that SCU customers are treated fairly and with integrity and protect sensitive customer and bank information by ensuring all confidential matters are appropriately handled as set forth by policy

 IFRS9 / Data / Models

14.     Coordinate the IFRS 9 (International Financial Reporting Standards) framework activities both for Group and Local reporting (including Stage 1, 2 and 3 provisions).

15.     Support Turkey stakeholders on their understanding of IFRS9, both for Group and local reporting (in line with any additional requirements due to local regulations).

16.     Determine ECL overlay adjustments for factors not covered by the models and ensuring the required governance process in followed.

17.     Run bespoke Stress tests as required by senior management, to provide ECL/RWA impacts due to certain stress scenarios (estimates can be provided without the use of formal models).

18.     Monitor metrics and the Wholesale Credit Risk commentary packs related with IFRS 9, Stress Testing and RWA calculations – keep senior management informed on key movements.

19.     Where a locally significant WCR model needs to be redeveloped / recalibrated, this role holder is responsible for ensuring that the relevant data (as advised by GRA) is collected and well understood.

20.     Support GRA on Turkiye related WCR model redevelopments (this does not require the role holder to act as a model developer).

21.     Ensure correct credit loss data is captured in the relevant systems on an ongoing basis as required for accurate LGD model monitoring. In addition, ensure credit risk rating data is collected for local and global rating models’ monitoring.

s   4 years University degree in business related area (Management, Economics and Engineering etc.)  (M)

s   Good level of written and spoken English and Turkish (M)

s   Good knowledge of Turkish banking regulations(M)

s   Knowledge of HSBC’s key banking systems

s   Knowledge of IFRS9 impairment standards, forbearance and regulatory requirements (group and local)

s   Knowledge & experience of the local Regulatory Credit and Provisioning policies and regulations, best practice guidelines as well.

s   Knowledge and understanding of HSBC Turkey systems and data pertaining to WCR

EXPERIENCE

s   Minimum 7 years bank experience (M)

s   5 years’ experience covering credit and risk, analytics and regulatory project areas (M)
