We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of Assistant Vice President  – Data Governance

Principal responsibilities

  • The role holder will report to the India Lead for Data Governance within Data and Architecture Office . S/he will help define and monitor data control procedures within HSBC’s control library, and ensure effective adoption of Data Risk Framework across Global Business and Functions. This includes operating a Data Management pillar within DAO while partnering with IT teams to prioritize and meet business requirements.
  • The role holder will support the data control design work stream to engage stakeholders & SMEs from Businesses and Functions to understand and assess regulatory & HSBC’s Data Management policy requirements. The role holder will be responsible for analysis and documentation of data management best practices, including data standards, lineage, quality, retention schedules, data access; and determining trusted source for critical data sets. The role holder is expected to always apply and uphold HSBC’s standards and guidelines. Define data retention schedules in accordance with financial regulatory timelines.
  • Work with Privacy and Compliance teams to maintain data protection controls aligned with GDPR, CCPA, RBI guidelines, and internal data handling policies
  • .Support the integration of metadata tools and catalogue systems to govern and track data usage and lineage across applications.
  • Participate in internal audits and regulatory inspections, providing evidence for control design and effectiveness testing.
  • Support risk mitigation efforts through early identification and remediation of control gaps & Partner with business data owners, risk managers, compliance officers, and IT teams to ensure business-aligned, risk-mitigated data control mechanisms.
  • Document and communicate data control requirements and issues clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.

    Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech/ B.E.) in Information Systems, Computer Science, Finance, Data Analytics, or a related field.

    Experience:

    • 10-12 years in data governance, control design, or data risk management in a financial services or regulated environment.
    • Hands on experience in creating conceptual data models for financial products
    • Exposure in implementing data governance principles and data risk framework
    • Understanding of financial products, regulatory reporting requirements, and risk and compliance workflows.
    • Experience with SOX controls, Basel II/III, GDPR, or RBI regulatory mandates.
    • Exposure to financial data standards and audit readiness.
    • Strong SQL skills for data validation and analysis.
    • Experience with ETL tools 
    • Familiarity with metadata management and governance tools 
    • Working knowledge of data visualization (Qlik sense, Tableau).
