We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Global Head of Advisory & Quality, Client Lifecycle Management.
Reporting to the Global Head of Client Lifecycle Management (CLM), the Global Head of Advisory & Quality, CLM, is responsible for ensuring a global consistent and quality implementation of Know Your Customer and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) processes across all stages of the clients’ lifecycle, whilst maintaining the highest of standards with respect to adherence to HSBC and GPB policies and procedures.
As an important first line of defense (1LoD) function, the Global CLM Team is accountable for ensuring GPB is compliant with regulations, policy and procedures pertaining to CDD.
The role holder will be the Subject Matter Expert (SME) in interpreting regulatory, policy and procedural requirements in relation to the CDD process. They will work with GPB markets to ensure a consistent and quality approach of implementing said requirements and act as an advisor for all CDD procedural matters which require a global view. The role holder will identify, propose solutions and implement enhancements to the CDD process whilst ensuring full adherence to all CDD requirements, in order to support GPB’s strategic growth ambitions and improve client experience.
To achieve this, the role holder will work closely with regional and market relationship managers, client service executives, COOs, Chief Control Office (CCO) and CLM teams as well as second line of defense (2LoD) functions (e.g. Compliance, Risk, etc.)
The role can be based in Hong Kong, Singapore, London or Geneva.
Principal Responsibilities:
- SME in regulatory requirement and HSBC policy interpretation with regards to CDD, by reviewing, digesting, applying and providing advice on financial crime risk related policies and procedures
- Act as a global point of contact for complex case referrals and how such cases should be viewed from a policy and procedural perspective
- Accountable for ensuring a consistent approach to implementing policy and procedures relating to CDD across all GPB markets
- Drive enhancements to CDD quality in GPB, particularly with respect to additional Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) requirements, e.g. Source of Wealth
- Identify and implement strategic solutions to improve CDD quality
- Work with the Global Chief Control Office, GPB&W and markets to consult on, and ultimately implement any relevant changes to policy and procedures
- Responsible for the GPB CDD QA framework and ensure that it is designed to drive a consistent approach to to test and improve quality in the CDD process
- Lead global CDD training initiatives
- Executes relevant global read-across to identify and rectify thematic issues as they arise
- Engagement and consultation on third-party reviews (e.g. Internal Audit) where global GPB input is required
Management of Risk
The role holder will be responsible for:
- Oversight of CDD related controls across all GPB markets and partnering with the CCO teams and 2LoD to ensure these controls are operating effectively, or where not there is a clear path to green in place
- Ensuring that GPB markets are adhering to regulations, policies and procedures with respect to CDD requirements
- Ensuring that changes to regulations, policy and procedures are reflected in the CDD process and procedures, including system changes
- Driving a consistent and quality driven approach with respect to the implementation of GPB CDD standards across all markets in order to mitigate financial crime risk
- Adhering strictly to compliance and operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC and regulatory standards, policies and practices
- Management of the GPB CDD QA framework, ensuring it drives a consistent and agile approach to reviewing the quality of CDD case files
- Escalating control weaknesses promptly to the CCO team, 2LoD functions and reporting to the relevant governance
- Anticipating and identifying risks, and ensures appropriate steps are taken to mitigate them with timely and conclusive actions
Knowledge and skill requirements
- Extensive banking knowledge gained from significant work experience within the sector, ideally with experience in private and wealth management
- Comprehensive knowledge of the HSBC Financial Crime Policy and relevant regulations relating to financial crime
- In-depth knowledge of global regulatory requirements for client onboarding and ongoing client maintenance
- Well-developed leadership skills to successfully lead a global team in a virtual and matrix environment
- Proven ability to authentically engage with global colleagues and business partners to deliver at pace
- Success in managing and delivering sustainable strategic change across a complex global organisation
- Be able to think strategically from a business perspective, and capable to improve existing practices
- Experience of effectively working with stakeholders at senior levels in an organisation, with the ability to influence
- Possess a flexible, open mindset that fits in with the fluidity of a global organisation
- Ability to elicit requirements from the business in an accurate and timely manner
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and ability to challenge information presented
- Ability to work under pressure and willingness to travel as required
