Principal responsibilities 
Our global technology teams work closely with HSBC’s global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply, and securely. We work in agile DevOps teams with colleagues around the world.

We are investing heavily across our Technology and Digital domains, and to accelerate achieving our vision, we are seeking an experienced Full Stack Engineering Lead to join Digital Channels. This is a global role based in China, with occasional travel required.

The Full Stack Engineering Lead is accountable to the Global Head of Engineering Standards and will support end-to-end execution of the Digital strategy as it aligns to the overall Technology strategy (Vision ’27) but with a specific focus on engineering in HSBCnet involving: 
• Hands-on engineering on major programme delivery
• Providing engineering thought leadership across our China engineering community and more broadly across our development centres
• Working with our Software community of practice leads and leading SWAT for critical issues or engineering problems. 
• To drive a measurable uplift in software development quality, as a key lead in the Engineering Standards function 
• To help define standards and practices and provide an oversight of assurance of engineering against our technical principles and strategy.

The successful candidate will provide a pivotal role in delivery to HSBC Technology’s overall strategy but specifically within the technology delivery teams of HSBC Net. This will include an extensive portfolio of activities including application of the Technology Resilience Maturity Framework (TRMF) across the service (and associated actions to uplift metal ratings), transforming our ways of working and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

The Full Stack Engineer Lead is responsible for working across the Technology Delivery Lifecycle including inception, construction, testing, release and on-going management of a product or service in a pod within a technology team. 
They will be required to continually enhance their skills within a number of specialisms which include front end, development, security, testing and operational support.
This role will carry out some or all of the following activities:
• Provide technical leadership across the end-to-end delivery and run lifecycle, utilising their skills and expertise to carry out software development, testing and operational support activities typically being deployed to resolve the most challenging and/or impactful projects or deliveries 
• End to end accountability for a product or service, identifying and developing the most appropriate Technology solutions to meet customer needs as part of the Customer Journey 
• Liaise with other engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to understand and drive the product or service’s direction. 
• Establish a digital environment and automate processes to minimize variation and ensure predictable high quality code and data. 
• Create technical test plans and records, including unit and integration tests, within automated test environments to ensure code quality. 
• Provide support to DevOps teams working at all stages of a product or service release/change with a strong customer focus and end to end journeys, ensuring they have an excellent domain knowledge. 
• Working with Ops, Dev and Test Engineers to ensure operational issues (performance, operator intervention, alerting, design defect related issues, etc.) are identified and addressed at all stages of a product or service release / change. 
• Provide support in identification and resolution of all incidents associated with the IT service, as directed by leadership of the DevOps team,   
• Ensure service resilience, service sustainability and recovery time objectives are met for all the software solutions delivered. 
• Responsible for automating the continuous integration / continuous delivery pipeline within a DevOps Product/Service team driving a culture of continuous improvement. 
• The ability to choose the “right tool for the job”.  Keep up to date and have expertise on current tools, technologies and areas like cyber security and regulations pertaining to aspects like data privacy, consent, data residency etc. that are applicable. 
• Work with industry groups/peers and vendors outside of HSBC to establish and maintain HSBC's involvement and influence in the engineering space.  
• Promote innovation and adoption of cutting edge specialist technologies and practices with the domain and across HSBC 
• Work with the Engineering Practice to promote development of engineers through coaching, and mentoring. 
• Identify as an authority for specific engineering disciplines providing steer/assistance to programmes or projects that require it.  

Requirements

• 10-15 years of leadership experience in engineering and developing software solutions
• Deep awareness of technology, development best practices and emerging trends across the industry, deep experience and knowledge of Java, web-based technologies (JavaScript framework, HTML, CSS) and services (REST, SOAP), XML, JSON, and Swagger, and Postgres/Oracle/Mongo Databases
• Skills and capabilities in API Architecture and API Engineering such as REST, API Gateways and Management Platforms, Cloud-native stack such as GCP and AWS
• Expertise in using Spring boot to build and design API’s is recommended.
• Strong hands-on technical background that can be demonstrated within the teams on the ground
• Excellence knowledge of SDLC and DEPL, and Agile / DevSecOps engineering models, an Agile & DecSecOps evangelist to help mature the organization. 
• Proven ability to improve developer productivity, service efficiency / excellence – through automation and advanced technical skills by implementing CT/CI/CD pipeline and metrics across services and applications to achieve level of automation in build and deployment process.
