Wealth and Personal Banking is our new global business combining Retail Banking and Wealth Management; and Global Private Banking, to become one of the world’s largest global wealth managers with USD1.4 trillion in assets. We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as a Senior Finance Manager.

HSBC Marco Polo is a new strategic digital business within HSBC Group, with the ambition to become a leading player in the global payments and FX market, supporting foreign currency and payment needs of internationally minded customers around the world.

We're building a standalone global wallet and payments app, with a narrow proposition, but the breadth to reach 10 million customers across 32+ markets, accelerating our international ambition and extending HSBC’s global reach.

The purpose of this role is to lead the successful implementation and management of Marco Polo global safeguarding framework, establish globally consistent standards, ensure ongoing compliance with all local regulations and have best-in-class controls in place. The role holder be focussed on meeting our liquidity and working capital requirements, as well as ensuring our controls and reporting are efficient and accurate. The role needs to understand what drives corporate treasury results and risks, be experienced in multi-currency management, as well as create and implement plans to scale the function, improve financial outcomes and mitigate risks.

  • Managing the capital/liquidity reporting requirements from both internal and external perspective
  • Responsible for managing daily liquidity risk by monitoring the accounting flows and ensuring the operational accounts are reconciled and with sufficient reserves
  • Support or run regulatory processes such as liquidity risk assessments, Stress test modelling, liquidity buffer calibration and optimisation alongside Risk and Finance teams
  • Implement and manage FX exposures and recommend and implement appropriate hedging strategies, risk management and reporting
  • Responsibility for creation/ management of financial reporting, profitability analysis, competitor and benchmarking analysis, strategy and global business case development and implementation of key commercial metrics
  • Represent Finance in product strategy, performance reporting and insights, planning & forecasting, governance and ad hoc analysis
  • Manage and mature the corporate treasury policy to ensure coverage of all treasury risks, roll out to the business & monitor compliance
  • Work closely with other finance stakeholders within Retail and Wealth banking and subject matter experts in relevant Finance sub-functions, drawing on and facilitating technical advice where needed. Play an active role in providing Marco Polo leadership with key insights and market trends to identify, monitor and report performance metrics



  • Broad and comprehensive understanding of concepts and principles within one discipline

Business / Commercial knowledge:

  • The role requires a comprehensive understanding of how all value units / products / regions / legal entities collectively integrate, alongside a comprehensive knowledge of the industry in order to contribute to the commercial objectives of HSBC


  • Management responsibilities for a sizeable team of professionals (including responsibility for budget, and planning)

Problem Solving:

  • Covers a wide range of activities that require complex judgements based on advanced analytical thought. Problems often require an innovative approach, based on extensive research


  • Develops new and adapts existing processes for increased quality and efficiency whilst encouraging others to seek new ideas/solutions to day to day problems

Accountability / decision making:

  • Latitude to make decisions outside of established procedures but within a policy framework.  Broad guidelines are available.  Role implements strategy set by others

  • Implements business plans through own team and is accountable for results


  • The role requires the ability to guide, persuade and influence others through the developed skills of communication and diplomacy
  • The job is likely to be involved in both internal and external negotiations which will have a major impact on the function, and possibly the entire business unit
