Non-Financial Risk is a pillar within Wholesale COO that is a specialised risk management function overseeing, and executing key activities within the Non-Financial Risk (NFR) management framework. The team actively manages varied and dynamic range of risk types under NFR framework. The team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
<Role purpose>
Generalist Risk teams are responsible for ensuring expertise, insight and resilience in risk administration & management information reporting & rich targeted commentary provision on the risks being managed in protecting the organisation, ensuring that risks are captured, understood, clearly communicated and potential sources of loss are minimised in a cost-effective manner. Role holders are unlikely to be specialists in particular components of Risk Management but will have highly trained risk identification, assessment & messaging expertise coupled with a broad network to access Risk Specialists & stakeholders.
Communicates implications of existing and proposed regulation to executive management, and develops potential responses. Capable of engaging the senior levels of the Business & Bank anticipating questions & information likely to be requested which improves decision making & speed to mitigate issues of concern. This may include establishing risk management procedures and processes to ensure adherence to policies or procedures, DIM, SOP or frameworks.

Reports to: Head Wholesale Non-Financial Risk, Taiwan.
- Responsible for supporting the BFCR, BRR, CCO sub-teams in NFR pertaining to WHOLESALE clients, ensuring the overall effective operation of the end to end processes and systems and ensuring adherence to all applicable NFR Standards through use of quality data, metrics, indicators, SLA’s in the management of operational risk, MI and reporting.
- Cascade to front line Compliance Updates for regulatory related matters, and ensuring that new legislation is adequately reflected in working procedures.
- Collect information regarding material reporting breaches to report to Stewards for consideration for next steps, and reporting changes to the business, which may affect RRIS.
- Support the activities of Business Continuity Management (BCM) by consideration & sufficiency of Emergency Response, Crisis Management, Disaster Recovery (technology continuity) and Business Continuity (organizational/operational relocation).
- Co-ordinate with regional team to prepare / validate annual CRS / FATCA / QI reporting data and to obtain HoB Risk Owner attestation.
- Perform & communicate results of testing or reconciliation in areas such as Complaints, Conflicts sampling, Actionable Intelligence trigger completion, Volker attestation, role / risk moves, external / internal regulatory reporting, ABC G&E reconciliation.
- Connect, survey & build networks with all relevant global / regional / country teams during risk steward review or internal / PwC / KPMG / EY audit. Support Banking Bureau / Bankers Association Surveys.
- Years of relevant working experience in a financial institution or similar experience working in wholesale commercial banking front office, risk and control units, audit / assurance function, or its equivalent.
- Knowledge of the HSBC WHOLESALE customer and, client tax reporting & business regulatory risk management lifecycle and control framework including relevant processes and Bank systems.
- Strong analytical and problem solving abilities. Good understanding of the importance of well-defined processes and governance.
- Strong interpersonal skills, sensitivity and an eagerness to develop strong partnership.
- Strong written and verbal communication (English & Mandarin essential) and presentation skills including ability to communicate with frontline teams, RC, Regulatory Affairs, Stewards, Audit and Regulators.
- Experience supporting and using quality data with commercial analysis to support risk advisory capability and/or educating others on complex business and/or risk management activities.
- Experience in documenting and maintaining procedures and in writing and delivering clear and effective guidance.
