 Job Introduction and Principal Responsibilities

 

Risk and Control (RCT) roles act as a First Line of Defence and work closely with Risk Owners and Control Owners to ensure the execution of operational risk management activities as defined by the Operational Risk Management

Framework within  a Business or Function. They provide expert operational risk advice and input, and control monitoring for the Business or Function. 

  • Responsible for Risk & Control Assessment (RCA) to the standard where key risks and controls are identified and assessed, taking into consideration the changes in processes/regulations, emerging risks or threats, new products/services, and continuous control monitoring results. Manage quality and timely completion of RCA’s in accordance to the Operational Risk Framework and guidelines/best practices shared by ASP CCO team.
  • Executing of the Control strategy to improve risk and control management for WPB.
  • Providing control expertise and opining on the end to end health of the control environment across the WPB businesses
  • Partner with IWPB, GCOO and GCIO Teams to identify, measure, mitigate, monitor and report risk.
  • Supporting implementation of Group Risk policies and frameworks for Risk Management incl. embedding of Operational Risk Transformation actions.
  • Regular engagement with control owners on issues related to monitoring, controls and remediation.
  • Increasing risk and control awareness and capability within the IWPB, GCOO & GCIO business leadership.
  • Review and assess the risk implications and impact of key controls to ensure the residual risk is at the acceptable level
  • Enhance the IWPB, GCOO & GCIO control framework through periodic review, including consolidation of key controls and removal of redundant controls. 
  • Managing internal and external audit requirements for IWPB, GCOO & GCIO teams. 
  • Facilitate review and assessment of Trigger Events/Read across to determine applicability and identification/remediation of similar gaps in local controls, if any.
  • Reporting on effectiveness of control environment within RCA, to local governance forums. Identifying and communicating the need for intervention, and sharing best practice.
  • Facilitate senior management in decision making through insightful and concise recommendations from risk & control management reports.
  • Work with the Regional IWPB & GCOO CCO to implement the CCO strategy, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and monitored and that all services and technology are delivered in line with the Bank’s risk appetite whilst adhering to all regulatory requirements. 
  • Identify and proactively manage current and emerging risks related to changes to services, processes and systems, across all functions, delivered by or impacting COO and related functions.
  • Bringing rigour and consistency to controls testing across IWPB, GCOO & GCIO teams, and addressing gaps in the completion of end to end risk and control activities. 
  • Facilitate the execution of the 3 Lines of Defence model by ensuring audits are planned, executed and reporting effectively, working across functions where appropriate.
  • Communicate and adhere to HSBC policy and procedures in order to ensure good operational, financial and project management, policy and procedural compliance and early identification and effective resolution or escalation of issues that arise.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and maintenance of a management information, analysis and reporting framework that supports and informs timely and effective business management and decision making at all levels.
  • Contribute to the implementation and monitoring of the application of policies, governance frameworks, procedures, practices and standards to ensure quality, effective risk management and regulatory compliance.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and practical experience of IWPB & GCOO businesses. Broad knowledge of the Groups three lines of defence and the practical application of Risk & Control requirements.
  • Knowledge and past experience in the area of Risk and Control framework.
  • Knowledge of Operations and Systems
  • Good understanding of the IWPB, GCOO & GCIO market and customer needs as India is a large country with several regulators, vast geography and demanding customers.
  • Highly developed communication & leadership skills to influence and manage complex, multiple stakeholders at country, regional & global level.
  • Ability to deal with and influence senior IWPB, GCOO & GCIO management as well as Functions in the country
  • Ability to work with large data bases and with teams in managing the reporting.
  • High calibre leadership with strong ability to navigate through complexities, influence and mobilize multiple stakeholders at country, region and group levels   

Eligibility Criteria 

  • India Bank / INM employees will be eligible to apply to this role after completion of 12 months in the current role/position at the time of application on level transfer and/or promotion.
  • Entity Employees (not from India Bank) to be guided by their internal policy on tenure completion in current role at the time of application before applying and share line manager approval once shortlisted.
  •  INM Employees in scope of WPB Career Progression Framework not eligible to apply to roles within the purview of the Framework.
