  • The Markets and Securities Services NFR is an extension of the Markets and Securities Services COO Office, and the Office will partner with business management in the embedding, remediation and improvement of the control environment in respect of key risks to the Markets and Securities Services businesses, including the testing and assurance requirements of the Group Operational Risk Management Framework. The office will deliver on control related priorities in a well-organized, effective, and collaborative manner. 
  • The Non-Financial Risk (NFR) team is a function that sits within the MSS area of HSBC. The team helps manage and control non-financial and new risks in the business, including but not limited to operational, conduct and product lifecycle risk.
  • An overarching purpose is to protect HSBC, its People, Clients and Financial Markets by helping safeguarding the delivery of fair outcomes to our customers and avoiding disruption of the orderly and transparent operation of Financial Markets.

The Opportunity:

  • The role holder would support the NFR team in execution of an effective risk management program with primary responsibilities of supporting the internal control monitoring plan and contributing to the control effectiveness testing. The position includes responsibilities related to a variety of risk categories and related areas such as business continuity, audit remediation, compliance, regulatory adherence, and information security.
  • Reporting and functionally accountable to the Global NFR Head of FX, EM Rates & Commodities, the role holder will oversee the control and conduct framework within FX, EM Rates & Commodities, supporting the Business / Function by supporting and promoting the effective execution of global governance, assurance processes, conduct and control standards, or defining where specific/relevant to the business / function.  
  • The role holder will need to work closely with the Regional NFR teams, Governance team and Assurance team, as well as COO community and their support functions to support and promote the effective implementation and design of control standards, control enhancement/improvement, governance and procedures, with the aim of sharing and promoting best practice.

What you’ll do:

At a high level, the role holder will be responsible for:

  • Assist in driving the conduct agenda for the region and/or asset class.
  • Own the control framework and agenda, ensure effective remediation actions in place for key issues for the region and ensure/track mitigation.
  • Ensure that the agenda / contents of the Global Markets NFR Committee and other forums as required is ‘fit for purpose’ so that key control issues and emerging risks are appropriately discussed and addressed.
  • Assist in delivering, NFR submission/update to local/regional governance forums
  • Ensure pack is produced, set the agenda and drive the focus on key control issues and emerging risks. 
  • Drive the RCA (Risk and Control Assessment) and other targeted risk and control effectiveness assessments for the business and ensure dynamic review of NFR risks.
  • Act as contact point for Audit & other independent functions in the second line of defense that conduct periodic surveillance and control reviews.
  • Monitor the implementation of the Management Action Plans (MAPs) to ensure timely remediation and enhancements and incorporated in the control environment.
  • Tracking of Issues, support the NFR/COO and Front Office Management in the maintenance and upload of items into GEMS and Helios.
  • Work closely with the NFR teams and Front Office Management to ensure timely closure of actions and other adhoc projects.
  • Drive the identification of control enhancements within the current control environment and therefore the risk & control change agenda for the asset class, driven by regulatory changes, business strategy or changes in services/products/clients offer.
  • Execution of risk management/review of the new products launched in Markets.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Degree holder preferably with a professional qualification with minimum 5 years of strong knowledge in Business Management or Non-Financial Risk/control roles within Markets business
  • Good understanding of a range of Markets business and products, preferably Foreign Exchange
  • Critical risk thinkers who should be able to understand front to back process flow for Markets and apply NFR knowledge to problem solve risk and control issues
  • Should be able to identify emerging areas of risks and design solutions to mitigate risk
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to be able to articulate complex risk and control issues in simple terms to senior stakeholders (e.g. Head of Markets, Senior traders, Second and Third line)
  • Strong problem solving and prioritization skills and be able to perform multitask under pressure with a keen eye for detail.
  • Develop transformation vision and build eminence of Change and Transformation practice

What additional skills will be good to have?

  • Data Skills are added advantage to use the new ways of working.
  • Ability to multitask and operate with minimum supervision.
  • Experience in Business Analysis would be an added advantage.
  • Excellent team player with a proactive and self-motivated attitude and ability to think and act independently with outcome focused.
