  • Today, the GAC team generates value across the group through a wide variety of data and analytic solutions and related business consulting. GAC has become a one-stop shop for the group’s analytic needs leading the integration of analytics and data-driven decisions not only in traditional areas such as Risk, Retail, Wholesale, Private & Commercial Banking but also in new domains such as Regulatory, Operations, Procurement, Human Resources, and Financial Crime Risk. It provides support to various business groups and the job involves data analysis, model and strategy development & implementation, Business Intelligence, reporting and data management.

  • There are primarily four job families in GAC: Decision Sciences, Information Management, Business Consulting and MI Reporting. This role applies to the Information Management job family within the Analytics function supporting various businesses and functions

The Opportunity:

  • There are primarily four job families in GAC: Decision Sciences, Information Management, Business Consulting and MI Reporting. This role applies to the Information Management job family within the Analytics function supporting multiple WPB business geographies and functions.

  • The UK Portfolio Monitoring/Portfolio Insights Team provides Key Business Insights, Portfolio Management, Monitoring and Adhoc Analysis for the UK WPB Unsecured and Secured Credit Risk Team. In addition, support Strategy related initiatives to UK Portfolio Team to achieve the following:

  • Monitor and analyze risk strategies to enhance business decision making

  • The role holder needs to provide business insights and add value to existing reports using available information.

  • Action oriented and on time reporting & analysis to meet customer expectations

  • Provide consulting to various Unsecured and Secured Business

  • Provide early warning direction to Business through advanced insights

  • Identify opportunity of Growth and Risk mitigation through analysis of data and trends

  • Support other analytical needs of the business

  • Responsible for managing the UK RBWM Risk deliverables with end to end report generation, report comprehension and data management of Portfolio Insight for RBWM Risk Business. This information is used to facilitate strategy development by the Risk committees, board members, CRO and COOs for region, country and Group.

  • Along with delivery of reports with 100% quality and TAT, the most important responsibility is to drive process efficiency with automation and standardization

  • Work with multiple customers/functions on multiple projects simultaneously and deliver in a timely, efficient and effective manner.

  • Manage relationship with key stakeholders in the Business (Onshore and Offshore) to build confidence in team and enable stakeholder’s investment in development of the team

  • Some project management skill will also need to be applied to ensure timely and high quality delivery.

The job accountabilities of this role are:

Projects and analysis

  • Strong understanding of business domain, its strategic direction, functional goals, and the required technical expertise.

  • Ensures the delivery of information to support the strategic and tactical information needs of the organization.

Service delivery

  • Delivery of high quality analytical solutions for the existing clients / engagements. 

  • Partner with business stakeholders in formulating key analytical strategies / decision making to achieve a higher value.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

  • Continuously review key risks and proactively institute controls in place to address the same.

  • Support and execute cost improvement strategies.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Sees the 'bigger picture' and assesses relationships between recommended analytical solutions / projects and business performance.

  • Makes decisions, even with ambiguous /incomplete data at a pace that balances the need for further analysis and the need for timely decision given business pressures / requirements.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and work well with all levels of management.

  • Supports diversity and adapts style and language according to the demands of the situation.

Driving Innovation/Change

  • Translates Business Strategic Imperatives into actionable analytical solutions.

  • A sound understanding of industry practices, their strengths and weakness and uses this information to recommend HSBC strategies and plans

  • Proactively leads/ supports change initiatives & innovative analytical thinking & solutions that results into improved business performance

  • Working in partnership with a variety of stakeholders at Global and regional levels including (but not limited to) Global Risk and Finance, Retail Bank business and IT colleagues at Global and Local Levels.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

  • Should have at least 2+ years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from reputed university with specialization in numerical discipline and concentration in computer science, information systems or other engineering specializations.

  • Strong analytical skills with proven business analysis experience or equivalent. Knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations preferred

  • Experience/Knowledge in Retail Risk Unsecured/Secured Business is preferred

  • Advanced knowledge of SAS, SQL and other equivalent analytical tools is necessary

  • Knowledge of Visualization tools like Qliksense /Qlik NPrint/ Tableau is a plus

  • Good to have knowledge in R/Python/Hadoop/Cloud(Google/AWS).

  • Ability to comprehend intricate and diverse range of business problems and analyze them with limited or complex data and provide a feasible solution framework

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with working in an on-shore off shore model.

  • Proven problem solving and analytical abilities including the ability to critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details and apply sound business and technical domain knowledge.    

  • Act with courageous integrity in decision making

  • Take personal accountability, be decisive, use common sense, empower others

  • Excellent presentational skills and the ability to chair meetings with senior and working group audiences.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
