We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as an Associate Director, Sustainability Risk.

Principal Responsibilities

This position will play a key role in implementing the sustainability risk management framework to support CMB/GB to deploy the groups sustainability strategy. The landscape in Sustainability is still quite nascent and evolving fast across market standards and practices, products, regulatory expectations, disclosures etc. The role holder will need to be able to work in a fast-paced environment and to lead active management of WSB sustainability risk in the Region.  Roel responsibilities will include:

Policy

  • Work with the second line to understand and influence policy, control and risk management developments
  • Communicate, implement and operationalize new policies, controls and risk management requirements via development into procedures and processes with CMB/GB/WCOO and across the markets in ASP

Controls

  • Build a strong network within ASP markets across the business and WCOO teams to drive sustainability risk management initiatives and necessary support to develop a strong risk culture
  • Holistic consideration of risks and controls through the client and product lifecycle to ensure compliance with policies. Effective adoption of those consistently and strive continuous improvement / simplification of the end-2-end Sustainable Finance processes
  • Help address compliance related requirements / resolutions and mitigation of Greenwashing Risk, in liaison with the second line, Audit, WCR, Climate Risk and other SMEs
  • Help embed appropriate governance, reporting and monitoring processes to provide Regional CMB/GB Senior Management with oversight of key business risks for timely action
  • Identify and escalate issues where appropriate via formal governance channels (e.g. MSII, HELIOS)
  • Help set and monitor key risk and control indicators aligned to CMB/GB global sustainability strategy
  • Provide subject matter expertise and coordination in embedding sustainability considerations into existing risk management frameworks (e.g. climate risk into Risk & Control Assessments)

Regulatory

  • Help develop a framework to anticipate, understand and respond to rapidly developing regulatory requirements across markets, including new taxonomies, disclosure requirements, and other development that impacts our clients
  • Develop a strong relationship with Regulatory compliance second line and legal to work collaboratively to support ASP markets in responding to such developments
  • Work collaboratively with ASP markets and help navigate local regulatory requirements where necessary

Other

  • Develop subject matter expertise in Sustainability, Climate Risk and Sustainable Finance
  • Play an active role in influencing changes to identify, manage and mitigate sustainability risk
  • Training – become a subject matter expert on Sustainability Risk and associated processes, and help upskill, provide necessary training to teams in markets as needed
  • Actively engage and drive regulatory stress testing requirements and obligation representing line of business representation for Sustainable Finance
Requirements
  • Experience in a similar capacity with transferable skills
  • Good understanding of the Commercial Banking business
  • Strong sustainability knowledge
  • Well developed risk management knowledge
  • Solid knowledge and experience in processes, Bank systems and/or project management
  • Organized and logical thinker
  • Strong interpersonal sensitivity
  • Ability to independently navigate an emerging area within the bank / industry
