Technology teams in the UK work closely with our global businesses to help design and build digital services that allow our millions of customers around the world, to bank quickly, simply and securely. They also run and manage our IT infrastructure, data centres and core banking systems that power the world’s leading international bank. Our multi-disciplined teams include: DevOps Engineers, IT Architects, Front and Back End Developers, Infrastructure specialists, Cyber experts, as well as Project and Programme managers.

As Cloud Platform Engineer you will work within a pod to drive excellence across a variety of different products that consists of large global distributed k8s platform that hosts APIs, applications, Events, a scanning container solution as well as other fantastic services. These are the foundations that allow thousands of developers to implement a large range of business applications. Automation is at the heart of everything we do. You will help drive best practices and will have the opportunity to be creative and work with other great likeminded people. The Cloud Platforms team is responsible for the design, implementation and ongoing operational support of Cloud services for the HSBC Wealth and Personal Banking business.

In this role you will:

  • Design, deliver and operate centralised cloud platform solutions to solve common engineering and operational problems, such as monitoring, logging, build, cost optimization etc., as the need arises, to ensure engineering teams are focusing on delivering value.
  • Workon a large distributed k8s (EKS) platform which consists of many clusters, nodes, and deployments.
  • Ensure cloud infrastructure and services are built and configured in compliance with centrally defined Digital Cloud blueprints, design patterns and standards, reusing approved components as far as possible.
  • Create self-service automation to allow ease of adoption for tenants using the platform.
  • Participation in code reviews and approvals; and definition of continuously improving code standards.
Requirements

To be successful in this role you should meet the following requirements:

  • Advanced experience with scheduling of Docker containers in a platform like Kubernetes 
  • Excellent scripting and automation skills in Bash, Python or similar
  • Experience of supporting microservices at scale in a global organisation, ideally in a public cloud environment.
  • Experience with using introspection tools like CloudWatch, DataDog and Splunk to troubleshoot live services, develop and maintain operational dashboards and fine tune alerts. 
  • Customer/stakeholder focus. Ability to build strong relationships with Cloud Services, cross functional development teams, and local and global IT teams.
