We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team Deputy General Counsel, Wealth and Premier Solutions

About The Role

The Deputy General Counsel for Wealth & Premier Solutions provides expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risks faced by the Wealth & Premier Solutions business are identified, reported and mitigated.
This role will report to the Global General Counsel for the IWPB business.

The role could be based in Singapore.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, manage and be responsible for all aspects of legal support to the Wealth & Premier Solutions business segments and the key product areas within that including  Wealth Solutions, Unsecured Lending, Mortgages & Transaction Banking;
  • Provide legal and strategic advice to the Global Head of Wealth & Premier Solutions and IWPB senior management regarding the most material legal and reputational risks to the Bank in relation to the business segment; 
  • Be responsible for leading and managing the delivery of support from relevant members of IWPB Legal team and working closely with the regional IWPB leads and the General Counsel, IWPB.
  • Provide comprehensive legal support to the Wealth and Premier Solutions business, advising on the development and delivery of innovative products and solutions that meet customer needs while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations and proportionate and appropriate risk management framework to ensure sustainability of the business.
  • To act as a member of the Global IWPB Legal wider leadership team, contributing as required on global issues and leadership actions
  • Evaluate and respond to changes in legal and regulatory requirements that are relevant to Wealth & Premier Solutions as they arise and proactively identify legal and other risks where relevant and partners with other stakeholders across HSBC to mitigate those risks
  • Set relevant policies and procedures to ensure that Legal's role in the second line of defence in relation to Wealth & Premier Solutions can be executed
  • Provide and manage counsel for assigned areas of responsibility, including matters that are complex or have potential for legal, financial and/or reputational impact
  • Participate as an active member of the IWPB Legal Leadership team in setting the strategic direction and priorities for the IWPB Legal team as a whole
  • Provide strong, proactive leadership including guidance, challenge, support, and development for direct reports as well as for lawyers and legal professional supporting Wealth & Premier Services globally
  • Manage external and internal legal costs within Resource and Financial Planning limits
Requirements

Requirements

  • Qualified Lawyer, expected to have significant hands-on experience in the wealth and international affluent banking product space
  • Significant experience regarding the manufacture and distribution of wealth products across the customer continuum and good understanding of the markets in which IWPB operates, with a particular focus on our strategic markets in UK, Middle East and Asia.
  • Significant experience leading a specialized team of lawyers and paraprofessionals
  • Extensive experience advising and influencing senior business executives; strong communication and networking skills; ability to navigate complex global organizations and build in-depth relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong track record of leadership and proven ability to lead and manage teams, including overseeing budgeting, headcount, talent development, and succession planning
  • Demonstrated ability to think laterally and critically and to devise sustainable and safe solutions to enable the business to achieve its aims
  • Ability to think independently being mindful of maintaining an appropriate balance between management and mitigation of legal risk and business efficacy
  • Broad familiarity with financial services laws and regulations relevant to wealth management including banking and securities laws.

The chosen candidate for this role will be required to undergo enhanced vetting.
