The Opportunity:

  • Credit and Capital Management (CCM) COO adopted a Value Stream model as part of the Group-wide Digital Acceleration Programme. 

  • The CCM Value Stream is responsible for delivering high priority programmes to simplify, digitise at scale and automate the credit and lending journey, as well as supporting the creation of a new, globally consistent credit and lending organisation serving CIB business lines which build towards our vision of becoming a leader in digitally enabled domestic and cross border lending across network, by improving customer experience generating competitive advantage through use of data and participation in emerging borrowing models.

  • The Value Stream construct allows us to focus on a single set of aligned objectives, collaborate to deliver our target architecture while maintaining the effective delivery of credit and lending services.

  • The Product Owner (PO) will support the definition of the product vision, product backlog and a product roadmap that aligns with the overall CCM transformation strategy. The PO will be responsible for delivering value to the business, engaging with the global and regional stakeholders and users to ensure the team is building the correct product.

What you’ll do:

The Product Owner will:

  • Be responsible for gaining insight into customer needs and championing customers’ preferences in order to direct the product vision of what is being developed.

  • Provide product sector and market expertise

  • Making and keeping the product a success - by ensuring that it offers a strong value proposition to the customers and users and that it creates the desired business benefits

  • Responsible for delivering value to the business, engaging with the customer to ensure the team is building the correct product

  • Responsible for the product vision of what is to be built, and conveys that vision to the delivery teams

  • Collaborates with the team to showcase the product to stakeholders

  • Actively manages the product feature backlog to understand customers' values and needs

  • Support management defects and register quality indicators within project delivery framework

Customers / Stakeholders

Primary customers are:

  • Business lines – CIB

  • Functional Teams – e.g. Risk, Group Finance

  • Operational support teams

  • Group & Regional teams

  • Other Risk sub-functions – global and regional

Other stakeholders on projects will include (as demanded by specific project need):

  • Other IT delivery functions

  • Other Transformation functions

  • Regulatory authorities

  • Other service delivery functions

  • Data service providers

  • Software, data and service vendors

  • The Product Owner will interact equally with senior management of stakeholder groups and support/coordinate staff as necessary. Governance should be in accordance with Group standards, policy and procedures.

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Support the team by quickly familiarising new team members with the team’s purpose and expectations

  • Support Programme leadership in communication of strategic direction across global, regional and country structures

  • Support and encourage constructive cross-country, cross function, and cross-business teamwork by demonstrating collaboration and taking prompt action to address any activities and behaviours that are not consistent with HSBC's diversity policy and / or the best interests of the business and its customers

  • Give timely, honest and constructive feedback to others

Major Challenges

  • To be flexible and adaptable in an environment of constantly changing priorities, challenging bureaucracy and staying true to the values and strategy of the Group. Drive embedding of new ways of working.

  • Working across multiple markets and business/functions with multiple delivery and business partner teams.

  • The systems and processes involved are often highly technical or require specialist knowledge to understand and effectively support the change programme fully.

Requirements

What you will need to succeed in the role:

Experience

  • Experience in Credit and lending within commercial / global banking is preferred but not mandatory.

  • Experience working with agile programmes

  • Strong decision making and problem-solving ability.

  • Proven ability to work across regions whilst maintaining a global perspective.

  • Ability to work with IT teams to deliver on tight schedules.

 

Capabilities

  • Understands and supports product propositions

  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of a broad range of products relevant to the business

  • Understands and can effectively describe the features and benefits for specific customers in the business

  • Develops product enhancements that will improve customer experience
