Your career opportunity
The financial services industry is subject to increasingly stringent law, regulatory rules and corporate governance obligations towards whistleblowers and ensuring that the sometimes-complex matters and investigation of their concerns are dealt with appropriately.  These requirements include the protection of individuals from retaliation; managing potential conflicts of interests; ensuring that underlying causes are considered; and that appropriate preventive/corrective actions are taken.  This is a sensitive process which needs to be handled with precision and skill, and the exercise of good judgement.
HSBC Confidential was established to manage and record whistleblowing incidents across the Group. Whilst the core team is relatively small, it deals with risks and concerns across the whole Group, across all functions and across all levels of management, and has effective relations with numerous external stakeholders including regulators, third parties and external auditors.
The Whistleblowing Investigations Oversight AVP is responsible for assisting in the support and operation of a robust and effective set of operational processes and procedures focusing on case initiation, case oversight, and case closure.

What you’ll do
    • (1) Whistleblowing case initiation - a review of the concerns raised, followed by risk assessment, data capture and referral to the relevant investigation function. Engagement with Reporters and other stakeholders may be necessary, where appropriate.  (2) Case management oversight - relationship management, MI analysis and on-going liaison with investigation functions, as necessary. (3) Case closure governance - timely review and approval of Case Closure Reports, in line with the Whistleblowing Policy, ensuring the accurate provision and capture of key reporting data which informs analysis of themes arising from closed cases.
    • Supporting the Global Head of Whistleblowing Oversight and Senior Whistleblowing Investigations Oversight Managers: (1) in advising and supporting investigation functions in the management of complex cases and managing relationships with the relevant Risk Stewards. (2) with the checks and quality assurance of whistleblowing data and investigations output.  (3) with the completion of analyses and production of reports and other papers for specific cases and help HSBC Confidential continue to improve the service to Reporters, through supporting active case management and follow-up. (4) with governance arrangements, including the Global and Regional Oversight Committees, and Board reporting.
    • Assisting in seeking to improve the quality and efficiencies of investigations and their outputs (e.g. through supporting the delivery of investigator training, and improvements to processes) as required.
